Honest question, What time of year do you have to go small on midges at pyramid?
@Oilthings12 күн бұрын
That’s a true statement about pyramid. The northern part has produced. And fish were caught early morning and late afternoon. With conventional gear flashy watermelon and pearl white was the best colors. We had a hen full of eggs already.

How much weight are you adding in order to get your leader to slide through the indicator after a cast? I’ve tried this same set-up many times, and even with about 1/16 oz of weight, in addition to the weighted flies, its till not enough to overcome the friction and allow the flies to sink deep enough for the indicator to reach the bobber stops. The only way I’ve gotten it to work is casting close enough to be able to high-stick all the line off of the water and slowly lower the rod tip to feed the line through the indicator. Tried it with jaydacators and a few others. I actually still really like fishing it that way, because often times, when fishing that deep, it’s most effective to have the indicator right next to the boat. However, at that point, I might as well just do a long-line dangle with a sinking line. Just curious to hear if others are actually able to get this method to work with a full-length cast.

I fished there for 4 days starting Thursday 1/18. I haven't fish at all with the indicator yet, but did well stripping buggers and Beatles. The first two days were slow but then day 3 and 4 the bite really kicked off strong! Would like to learn more about the indicator methods here and 2 hand casting with the indicator. About how far do you need to be able to cast your indicator rig to be successful and would it be tough with a single hand 9'6" rod? Thanks
@codycoffey986510 ай бұрын
60 feet is a great distance to be able to cast. a lot of spots wont require that far. 2 handers are so much better when you have a steep shoreline behind you or rocks, deep indicator rigs, ect.. as someone that converted to trying switch last year, do it. So much less work, snagged backcasts, broken off flies. Get a nice one so it is light

Do you need a full cage reel for this?
@renoflyshop2670 Жыл бұрын
not necessary. The volume (thickness) of running line shouldn't be a problem even with reels that space for lines to become a problem.

Do you find this rig roll casts well? I usually use a tapered leader but I might try this next time I'm out.

It roll casts really well. The thicker butt section turns over a jaydacator and double fly rig well.
