I hope you didn't mean it, but it seems like you say "people that get mentally ill are weaker than the others" (comparison to the "savy" Juliet etc.).
@5QShakespeare20 күн бұрын
Hi Spaghetti. I certainly didn't mean anything insulting. But someone like Juliet has an innate strength of personality that Ophelia does not have. Resilience to negative emotion. "Weak" is a cruel word, but, sadly, some people are naturally higher in neuroticism than others. My argument is that Ophelia is one of those people.
@momsspaghetti224619 күн бұрын
@@5QShakespeare We don’t know much of the past of these characters, but in real life the reason for that difference is how people grew up and how much trauma they had. It’s not natural at all.
@5QShakespeare19 күн бұрын
@@momsspaghetti2246 Fair enough. In the David Tennant film version (my fav) Ophelia is played to accentuate the "tricks in the world". Perhaps this is off-stage trauma, before play opens. Trauma is only part of the picture, though. There is s genetic component to neuroticism. I believe Ophelia is high in neuroticism, one of the Big Five Personality Traits.

The play he has the players recite is interesting too. If I remember correctly it is Neoptolemus' killing of Priam, another son avenging his dead father, Neoptolemus is the kind of hero that Hamlet wants to be

It's very interesting to me how Macbeth was initially very invested and believed in the witch's prophesies (of him becoming king and also later on when he visits them again), but in this act, he is trying to go against what the witches have told them. I think this ties very nicely with your interpretation of Cain and Abel's theme and the primary reason why he commits this murder.
