Its probably all that fibreglass and epoxy that is making heavier than desired. Aluminum skin probably would have cost the same, alot less work and much lighter. I will build mine finished on the inside first and have the outside open for

This looks awesome ! I have an old ford f 150 from 1994 and thinking this is the best bet for my light truck , a little space to sleep, stay dry, and keep my work gear without hauling anything - love it !

If you had it to do over, would you make the length a little shorter so you could still have the tailgate?

Wonder if i couod do this inside a shop or storage rental before winter comes. I. Gonna add the top part above the cab but i also wanted to go right inside on the cab floor n around wheel wells to grab xtra room. Put a tiny woodstove in as well n live in it. Where i live is tiny anyhow n full of not so great ppl n its making me sick my dig sick n we are miserable. But it gets really cold here. I ice fish too so i know this woukd be warm. I do own a motorhome class c but its too big to randomly park places n travel around n do stuff n the cold gets in fast heat escapes n its a sauna in the summer less the ac is on n im in the shade 😊. Im doin this. Wish i already did. Im intimidated by the epoxy is all

Just seeing it and hearing the first 90 seconds is just about exactly how I’m planning on building my camper. Looking forward to the rest of the video now. Lol

Very nice. I'd leave the tail gate on, shorten the shell accordingly. Change the leading edge to round or angular for more aerodynamic air flow. This give me ideas. For my DIY balancing ease of wood frame vs light weight of tubular aluminum frame.

Straight and to the point. "I did this, this is what I used, this is how I did it, this is what it looks like." None of the ridiculous "creative video" shots or background music. This is exactly how every DIY video should be. Thank you!!!

nice build. i briefly considered building my own too, but couldn’t get passed the idea of leaks in the roof (have watched others who’ve built their own and ended up with leaking roofs), so i ended up ordering a cap.

Can you go freeway speeds with pulled campers or camper shells made out of only 2x4s? I'm curious to ask how safe this is.

I watched your build video before this one and picked a many more ideas from this one as well. Is the fan a Max Air fan? Thanks again, I think I will watch your videos a few more times to see if I missed anything more. Great job!

I am glad to see this video show up. I have a Toyota Tundra with an 8' bed and would like to build something similar. I would like to have a roof that pops up with tent/screen material around the back and edges so I can stand up (6'2" tall). I also am a boat builder (hobby) so have experience with epoxy. I also like the idea of making it a shell rather than creating a whole tub style which I think makes for many small unused spaces. Your modular furniture is also a great idea. I did not think about double doors but like that idea as well. Thanks, a very nice job overall.

A lot of great ideas that I'm going use.I wish you were my neighbor here in Wi., instead of Michigan, so I could run over and get your opinion on what I plan on doing. I also love the porch lights, where did you get them from ? Also, how long is your truck box, it looks like it's 78 inches, the same as mine.

Nice job. I built mine also. A little more aero but mine is totally rustic compared to yours. I'm impressed and inspired to do another more along your lines (but taller). Do you know what your materials cost? The other thing I would suggest is a Propex propane heater. They're fully vented and thermostat controlled. I've been comfy in the low teens. Set the temp for say 55° at night and forget about it. But it's so nice to come home...say from a day hiking in the rain...and have a warm spot to live.

When i built mine i used fooring for the roof. I was staying in it but had a tarp over it . A raven ate a hole in the top of it. After I replace it with the flooring . I heard a raven try to land on it . He went sliding off of it . The fooring used came from Lowe's for 50 bucks. I went with a wood grain . What gave me the ideal was i went to a rv reapair place looking for a sheet of aluminum. But its Fairbanks Alaska. It took me years to find a ledlight for the inside of the camper . Now i can . But the teck said the side panels for rv looks like flooring . Later i went to a metal roofing company. So i decided to do that . The metal on the truck would add 150 pounds. They buy it by the role . And for 3 dollars a bend i needed 7 different bends. But i had a 1986 gm heavy 3/4 ton with a 454 . So I wasn't worried about weight.

I love this camper. I was thinking if the back was inside the bed enough to retain the tail gate, it would be harder and more secure for anyone to get in the back. Still have your tailgate to sit in. I have been thinking of getting someone to make me a simple shell made out of wood and add a couple windows then have a friend of mine spray a bed liner over the entire thing and that is all I need for weekend outings. For now just keep dreaming.
