Good video - but.... Without the oil industry we will be walking, all things made of plastic would not be possible. How many are truly willing to give up the comforts of life created by the oil industry? Not many at all. It's cute to talk anti-oil industry and drive to protests while on your cell phone. The case and most components of cell phones are made with oil and oil byproducts. It takes seven gallons of oil to make one car tire. It takes oil products to fuel the majority of cars. Most items in your home are made using oil products. You "woke" environmentalists need an education. You willing to walk everywhere you go, live without cell phones and computers, televisions? No, you aren't.

While magnesium is very common, antimony is quite rare - about 100x less abundant than lithium and only about 4x more abundant than silver. About 9/10ths of the world supply comes from China. They obviously aren't going to use antimony in the commercial unit. Not sure what they will substitute it with or how well it will work though. The battery would have to remain molten to work. Presumably this will put constraints on its duty cycle.

Oh, I totally agree. My point was this a great example of subsidy money being used for a great idea, and yet Solyndra is what you see in the news. I am a big fan of subsidizing new energy solutions! Anyway my point of the first comment was just in response to the fact that in this vid he claims "without subsidy" and it the Colbert interview he says there was subsidy ...

Basic science like this guy has done is just fine for dropping some tax money on. After that turn it over to the mechanisms that manage the scarcity by evolving a value for a technology, material or trade. We have already invented LFTR's they can replace the baseline coal generation.

A few questions: -What is the state of the battery when there is no electrical load? Are the metals solid? -When a load is applied, is there a loss of efficiency to get the metals to the appropriate temperature to allow for the requisite electron transfer? -Is antimony actually cheap and abundant? Thanks for any input.
