Any tips for making nice 808 basses?
@Aqua_1014
@Aqua_1014 3 ай бұрын
ye I'd use one of the fm machines to get a nice balance of even & odd harmonics bc modern 808s are all about the saturation & I find that a weak point of the Mono. Can try the method in the vid for the transient if ur going for a layered kick + 808 sound, but for straight 808s the normal lfo works fine bc it's not a massive pitch sweep. Mess with a fast filter sweep up on the start of each note to try & make a click, doesn't always work tho. Can also play around with using the drum sampler as a transient for consistency, either a little click or as a full on kick layer.

Great work here - would love to hear the rest of the album if you do it. You managed to really bring out the atmosphere and more subtle elements of the track without changing the feeling of it entirely. Would also be interested to know how you did this mix. Did you isolate elements from the song and create your own stems or was this entirely just EQing and processing the full song as one track?
@Aqua_1014
@Aqua_1014 4 ай бұрын
hey thanks! No isolating or ai stem tools, just good old fashioned mixing & mastering tricks. I am trying to do that professionally but hard to get that going as a no name hahaha. There were some strange panning choices in the original mix which actually made it so that one could use mid/side trickery to highlight a part & eq it or add subtle reverb. My fav part of the song always has been the bg vocals & I always imagined them more blue/wet so was super happy to add that here

Coming back to this after hearing the original album (most of it at least) on my weirdly high quality TV speakers at my grandma's house, and I now think that Danse sounds tons better on speakers than headphones, and the high frequencies overshadowing the music doesn't feel like a "flaw" anymore, but an addition to the music, which is exactly what I wanted out of the album. But since most people listen on headphones, there should be a remaster kind of like this for the people who don't listen on speakers often such as myself.

It has quiet of CPU usage.. I wonder if it is really the new standard it even dry up moment CPU?
@Aqua_1014
@Aqua_1014 10 ай бұрын
Yea I basically treat it as if it were a hardware synth and freeze/bounce each instance because it can get really CPU heavy & it crashes sometimes. I think those problems should get better as the beta goes on as in one of the intro videos Urs says it's feature complete but not really that optimized yet. I guess we'll have to wait to see how much better it gets hah

Interesting technique, i didn't realize watching the super plate that it was automating the decay time and not the volume. Maybe you could test out a side by side comparison with this technique you employed here vs. a normal sidechain reverb pluck compression? I would like to see if there is a qualitative change or if the result is extremely similar.

Hey! this is FMOD which is middleware used to implement audio in game engines like Unity or Unreal. I made this in Reaper (I made everything using u-he Hive which was a lot of fun) then brought the render into FMOD to arrange for a non-linear environment.
