It's the first time I know the name of Robert Fortune. As a Chinese,I have learnt Opium Wars and our huge losses several times but never heard of this botanist behind the East India Company. For us, he's definitely a thief accelerating the invasion of colonists. But I have to admit that his wisdom impressed me. When it comes to history and politics, the opinion always depends on which side we stand, so I believe his success is meaningful for the British tea lovers.( but still personally criticize all warmonger!)

Thanks for this great video. A sedentary lifestyle and a diet with processed foods are the chief reasons for accelerating obesity rates in every country. In Vietnam, it was seldom to see an overweight kid back in the 1990s due to the poor diet. However, it is easy to spot obese children on the street nowadays due to the lack of regular exercise and a diet with excessive amounts of fat.

I don’t really get the pétanque joke. In Italy and the US it’s called bocce, in the UK it’s called bowls, or lawn bowling. There are slight differences in the rules and techniques, but some variation of the idea is played all over the West. It’s not a uniquely French thing.

Hello Alicter, thank you for the episode. It was very interesting. I am looking forward to the next episode about e-cigarets which became very popular around the globe like they were the cure to traditional smoking. Are they really less harmful than traditional cigarets? I hope you will try to provide the answer.

😮 obesity seems to be a worldwide problem. Eating and drinking arei the cheapest way to get satisfaction. Globalizazion let more population afford junk food and countries with a secolar correct average diet ( e.g.Italy or Greece) are losing their good habits. It is very sad indeed. Thanks for your story which uprises a major problem

Hello mate, I am a big fan of your podcast. I also suggest everyone use this channel for learning history and learning English. I request that you make an episode on the situation in our country, Bangladesh. You know that we (students) have fought with the autocratic government. During this war, we have lost so many peers and family members. At the end of the day, we won this battle. Also, you can make one about the war that we fought with Pakistan in 1971. I will share with you as much information as you need. For me, you are hands-down the best storyteller.

Thanks Alistair for your stories.I am a retired boomer. I worked in England as a kitchen porter in my university years in late seventies. That was not a cool time at all. I clearly remember the daily IRA problems which piked in lord mountbatten Murder and the city of London controlled by the Police at every corner of the streets. Unimployment, too was a huge problem only milded by the last days of english welfare state. Music was not to bad ti be honest. I remember the top chart in 1979 I don 't like mondays Boomtown rats We don ' t talk anymore Cliff Richards I' m sending out and s.o.s.Police Great job Alistair. Thanks again Keep doing it and bring us a bit of fresh air of British culture. Your new, but from now on, constant and true follower Gianluca I found your podcast listening to your duet with Luke Thompson.
