coats of arms is a personal thing only one person can use it is not the same as a family crest

Good morning, I must humbly request your understanding as I clarify certain aspects of the information presented in your video. Regrettably, I must point out that a substantial portion of the content is inaccurate. Firstly, the term "family crest" is not a valid concept in heraldry. Furthermore, you have interchanged the terms "coat of arms" and "family crest," which is a common misconception. In actuality, what you are describing pertains to heraldic achievements or achievements of arms. It is essential to note that a heraldic achievement is not the property of a family but is bestowed by the Crown upon an individual. It may subsequently be inherited by the heirs of that individual. Moreover, it is imperative to emphasize that the creation of elements within the shield or arms of a heraldic achievement is not a matter of personal whim. Heraldry is both a science and an art, guided by a set of established rules. Regarding the "crest" within a heraldic achievement, it constitutes a component of the overall "design," for lack of a more suitable term. The crest is positioned above the shield, and when a grant of arms includes a helm and mantling, it is situated above the helm as well.

There are sites that sell family Coats of Arms, but most are not authentic. Usually if a person obtained the ranking of Captain, he would be allowed or was entitled to a Coat of Arms from his native Country if he so desired.

Tincture (colors) don't represent anything. Gules is red and Azure is blue. That's it.

The coat of arms were indeed created to identify warring sides and allegiances. Heraldry became necessary in the warring city states of northern Italy, what is today Germany, France, England. Other European states, such as Southern Italy historically known first as The Roman Empire, then Kingdom of Sicily, was a a united nation for 2700 years , i.e.since the founding of Rome in 754 BC. Hence heraldry was not common there because the families did not fight each other as in the other countries, and they were one nation, under one leader for nearly 3000 years.

Nice video but a Coat of arms and a family crest are two totally separate things..... also red in heraldry represents victory not love :)

Red can mean more than one thing, often it does mean victory and military strength, but also blood, martyrdom and love, especially in medieval times courtly love and decorating clothing and sword scabbards with flowers and hearts wasn't out of the ordinary.

bruh, ok 1) arms represent individuals, not families. 2) you would never write your family name in the scroll, that is where the motto goes 3) even if you ignored that, the heraldry in this video would be illegal If you want a very simple, easy introduction to heraldry, then I would recommend Ralchire's channel ( specifically this video: and the two that come after it) kzbin.info/www/bejne/foXMoIusj752qqM

Most family crests are just stupid pictures... My family crest is a mathematical masterpiece.. And easily as satanic if not more so than the pentagram...

FYI there’s no such thing as a family crest. Coat of Arms are granted to an individual person and not families it’s passed from father to son women couldn’t have them independently but could have recognition in their husbands Arms by way of Amendment to the design for the inclusion of a wife. So these sites that grant arms for your family surname are scams. There’s also laws in many countries who can have them like here and Canada the College of Arms is the granting authority and designs them for a person who will take your ideas into consideration when designing them. Achievements for those eligible to bear them legally will be registered and recognised in law as a right to bear Arms because it’s heavily regulated stemming from nobility and royalty. But you don’t have a legitimate Arms granting authority or regulation in America that recognises Achievements so you’re kinda free to do as you want unlike us😢
