What type of drill bit did you use? I bought one specially for metal and cannot get it to go all the way through. I’ve tried several other types and had no luck.

I had this idea but not sure if it would work. I was afraid drilling the hole may cause the hinge to break. So glad to see you video. I have kept my late husband's 2001 Explorer and use it to haul wood, etc. Thank you so much.

Not mentioned in the video is that the fill plug is on the opposite side from the drain plug, near the driver's (left) side CV axle. My 2005 had the rubber plug and it was covered in grease so took a while to locate.

Thank you so much for posting these videos. My father bought one to save gas as he has an Econoline that is very expensive on gas. Since hes had the 2001 PT cruiser, manual, hes had a hard time finding parts that are affordable and so on. He's had so many questions and there are not alot of places one can go. Mechanics try to rip people off and its not great (obviously not all) So thank you for this. Very much.

I was frustrated by how difficult it was to find out how much fluid to put in. The auto stores couldn't determine how much even with my VIN number, all the KZbin videos had different amounts to add, not even an internet search could give me one option. You know how I found out, there was a decal on the transmission itself that told me how much to add (90oz or 2.8L). But to be honest, once I added the exact amount, it was the exact amount that it will start overflowing out of the fill hole. So I don't even think you need to know exactly how much... Just fill it till it starts pouring out the fill hole. I changed it at 68k miles. It looked pretty bad.

After that I could no longer find my original comment and yours disappeared too. Maybe I wasnt allowed to post a link in my comment. I did mine. 1st manual transmission fluid change. I was afraid at first that I would mess up something. But no. It was so easy. I didn't use ATF fluid. I used Valvoline synchromesh manual transmission fluid. It's great fluid. Transmission performance is better than before. I used the same transfer pump.

I've been looking all over for a video/tutorial like this that offers a common-sense DIY fix. And there's no way I'm shelling out $$$ to have a repair guy do the same when I can accomplish it myself.
