The Wizards are keeping Smart, not gonna buy him out. Lakers are a 1st apron team which means they can't sign buyout players that are currently making more than the MLE of 12.8 mil, Smart is making 20 mil this season and 21 mil next season. Smart just hasn't been the same since Boston and the injuries are probably the reason why he hasn't been as good as he used to be. I hope he can bounce back but Washington is basketball purgatory

Yeah but I still woulda gave up a first round pick swap to get off klebers contract just to take a shot on smart or Bruce brown…we would be under the first apron if we did that…obviously Bruce brown would be #1 target but I wouldn’t even mind smart just because I doubt that swap will really mean much with Luka here now n maybe the change of environment woulda helped

The players that make more than the MLE that we thought would be available in the buyout market aren't even available so it ended up not mattering to get out of the 1st apron. Wizards aren't buying out Smart. The Pelicans are keeping Bruce Brown and it seems like Bruce doesn't want to take less money going to a contending team which makes sense and it's been reported that Brown and the Pels want to work on a multi-yr contract in the summer. The Wizards aren't buying out Brogdon. Pistons are keeping Dennis Schroder and Dennis doesn't want to get bought out and take a vet min somewhere. Unless if you want Ben Simmons... yuck. Now the Lakers will potentially have $40 mil total in expiring salary they can move in the summer

You know most players that buy out only give back the amount they will be getting from their next team right? Sometimes they give a little more but most times they just break even on what they would have gotten…talking Bruce browns case I dunno about multi year like smart

Depends on if Markieff's salary is fully guaranteed or not. Spotrac hasn't listed whether his money for this season is fully guaranteed or not. My guess is that it is fully guaranteed which means if the Lakers waive him, that money is still going to be on their books for the rest of the season
