great video. all these electronics can be confusing for us older guys. I am about to order a 60" ghost and elite fs for myself as a retirement gift. the best kind...from me to me. So why does the boat have to be moving 3-5mph to use down scan or side scan? If had down scan on and was drift with the current alittle over a brush pile, I wouldnt necessarily be moving 3-5mph so would I not see anything? screen be blurry?

@@hdbaker7060 thanks for watching and commenting! Congratulations on your retirement and I completely understand but electronics can be confusing to us young farts also! The way the transducer sends the signal to the bottom and the return with down and side scan it is just constantly showing you the same image across the screen like it’s not moving when it is not, in return you get a screen full of that particular surface the sonar frequency is pinging off of. Hope that answers your question and thanks again!

The best trailer I've found for winter fishing when that water temp drops below 52°, is a simple 3.25"-4" Sinko. It offers next to zero action but adds enough "meat" to the presentation to entice a bite. I prefer to use a 5/16 oz ballhead jig along bluffs myself, but that has more to do with the highland lakes I frequent in the winter. (Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow, Green River Lake here in KY) Above 52° it seems like the fish want a bit more action on the trailer, so I opt for a chunk style or a twin curly tail at that time.

@@grahambald2348 thanks for watching and commenting! I re watched my explanation on side scan just to make sure because sometimes I get to talking quicker than my brain processes information but in this case no I was correct on my statement here is why. 455khz sets out a wide cone angle so you get more coverage of the bottom and water column at the expense of clarity, if you use the 455khz in deep water 40+ feet give or take you will not get as much definition or target separation as you would with the 800khz in 40+ foot water. 800khz will be a narrower cone angle with more definition and better target separation in those deep water situations. Hope that explains it and I greatly appreciate you watching and the question!
@grahambald2348
@grahambald2348 12 күн бұрын
@ mate you have it mixed up..455 travels furthers through the water and you use it for distance without as much detail..The lower the frequency the further it penetrates..so it works best in deep water and out wide….800 doesn’t travel as far though the water and has superior detail and is used in shallower water and the side scan doesn’t penetrate as far either side..Which is opposite to what you say in the video..Cheers..

Steve here from Australia and Merry Christmas. Thanks for such a great vid on the FS9 as I've just bought one for my 14yo son's first tinny. Its a 3.45mtr and since he's not allowed to get his boat licence til he's 16 by law, he can only run up to a 6hp on it so I bought him a nice little mercury 4 stroke 6hp outboard only about 18mths old. He's going to be running in the river estuary area and up the creeks which will hold some nice Barramundi, Mangrove jacks ,bream, flathead, queenfish etc so I wanted him to experience a good quality unit that he can grow into and fine tune his skills with the FS9 unit parameters to suit his fishing. I run a carbon 7' unit on my tinny and a 3D sonar module also but I'm not getting 3D working so I'll check that out eventually. You have explained how to setup the FS9 very well and I'll definitely be showing my son this video when he receives his FS9

We're going tomorrow (Sunday) and the temperature is gonna be warmer, low 40s high 50s and cloudy. So a warm front and rain is coming Monday. @coltonposeyfishing
@coltonposeyfishing Ай бұрын
@@silverpunk2427 thanks for watching and commenting! It is quite possible they will move up shallow it really just depends on the movement of the Shad, the good news is the Bass should be in their typical areas. Main lake points and channel swings but they may be pushed up on the point feeding not suspended off of the point or on the shallow transitions on the channel swings, now if the rain hits then they will likely push to every single run in possible.
