I agree, it is more like Morris dancing, just hitting the sticks together. You are supposed to attack the body, be it head, legs or wherever and the block to that attack from the other person. I have been told off for doing this at the dojo. Some of the attacks you could just stand there and do nothing as they were a foot away and then attack after the swing of the bokken has passed.
