I've known this song for about 50 years now, heard it in many different versions, and keep coming back to The Dubliners' version, as Luke Kelly's interpretation of the lyrics has always spoken to me in a way, where I could close my eyes and see it all as if it happened right there, here and now, in front of me. Today is the first time I've ever heard Phil Coulter play and sing his own great song, and the way Phil sings it gives me a whole new dimension and meaning to the lyrics. I found the album "The Songs I Love So Well" and saved this video so I can listen more to how Phil interprets his great song 😀

I'm far from Derry. I'm from Lebanon. First time I heard this song, I melted and cried. It touched me deeply. Despite the Derry references, it applied to my town in Lebanon that I loved so well too. That's the genius of Phil Coulter and this song. ❤
