I have the exact same lathe except it’s not the cabinet version. I’d love to see some pictures of how they do that the motor and pulley underneath it. I’d love to make mine like that, but I would need to see how they do it. Now with the DRO, do you not even look at the dials on the way anymore just paying attention to the digital read out?Even though the craftsman has nice hand dials compared to mother machines they still can be a pain to see sometimes thanks very much. Nice job.

@@ScottPinardi I’ll try to reply with some pics for you this weekend. Yes, after I installed the dro I don’t use anything but the digital readout unless it’s something that requires a great amount of precision and then I’ll double check it. So far the dro has worked out great. I love it.

Just restored the smaller version of your lathe a Craftsman 101 6x18 . Mine is a early model as well 1939. Still really tight for its age. Purchased a smaller DRO set up for mine that I am installing this weekend. I am just north of Houston in the Conroe area.

A friend of my Father just gave me a 12x36 Craftsman Atlas but all he had was a parting tool and threading tool holder….Im looking at getting a quick change for it, is that a BXA on yours?
@alltimejackshop
@alltimejackshop 3 ай бұрын
It is a BXA. I believe AXA and BXA will work just fine.

Looks really good! I'm always a fan of that shape and I have a soft spot for captive rings.

I’ve seen at least eight of this model, but never an intermediate pulley like this. There is one available from the factory, but the middle pulley has only two steps. Would be interesting to see more about this one.

I cant find the correct file. I think it was on the computer I dropped. I need to have the hard drive removed and see if I can get all the stuff that was on it. I lost a lot of files. If I get them back, I will share. If not, I will make a new file eventually and share it.

I really like the idea of the brass nipple so you can shape it. I’m gonna try that. I’ve been using copper pipe or fittings for ferrules!

I bought a Delta 15 inch drill likes yours except mine is a 6+6. It only has single grove pulleys. That is 6 speed and 6 inch quill movement. It was 3 phase and no holes in the table. I installed a VFD and a movable cam and switch on the spring side spindle quill for auto motor reversal while tapping at 20hz

Great job! I had one that had a smaller table and it was a great machine. I'd probably still have it if it had your table. And you are right, the post is very time consuming. I built a motorized roller to help but it still takes a while on each one.

Its still a little thicker than the original but the front one has a contour to it and I wanted to be sure it would flex enough.
