Thank you! If you have sets {1+2}, and {3}, would you call them equal?
@timzick222510 ай бұрын
Although it isn't intuitive, probably not! Sets can have all sorts of things as elements from numbers, to words, to colors, to ordered pairs, to movies, to people, to equations, to dates, ..., really anything you can think of (or any combination of those). So when I look at the element of {1+2} I see an arithmetic expression. When I look at the element of {3} I see a number. Since those are different types of objects, I would say the two sets are different sets!

Kind of wished I watched this video 3 units ago, its a lot easier to think of truth tables with the framing of on and off, like the flow of electricity in a circuit. Far easier to comprehend than true and false like its another dang English class

hey am really confused on a math mayan problem. can you please help me. Use the table to write the Mayan numeral as a Hindu-Arabic numeral. there are 5 rows: ( I cant copy the graph unfortunately) 6 =(dot and horizontal line) 16= (a dot and 3 horizontal lines) 15= (3 horizontal lines) 0= (the zero symbol) 0=(the zero symbol) the correct answer is 3,720,600 But idk how :/ when to me, I got, 984,600

I didn't understand 20. You said there was no symbol for 20, but yet you kept talking about 20.. Hmm...????
@timzick2225 Жыл бұрын
Just in in our system there is no individual symbol for "10" (we have to put two symbols together) in the Mayan system(s) there was no single symbol for "20" (they had to put two symbols together)!

I just finished your video and wouldn't ~p: z ≥ 7? I could be incorrect but I noticed it :)

Good question! The negation of "less than or equal to" is just "greater than" because if the two things were equal, only the original statement or its negation can be true!

Question. So in the final row where it is F F = T. How does that work? How can it be True if both p and q are false?
@timzick22253 жыл бұрын
The conditional only promises the consequent (after the arrow) is true when the antecedent (before the arrow) is true. Think about this bet; "If the Packers win the Super Bowl, then I'll pay you $10." The false false case is when the Packers do not win the Super Bowl and I don't pay you...which should match up with what you thought would happen.

If we understand our system is positional (and thus the 3 in 2372 is really 3 hundreds), we can more easily convert from base 16 to our system, like the 4 in 84A2 is really 4 times 16 squared.

what is a practical use for this?
@timzick22253 жыл бұрын
This is actually a good (and deep) question. Our big goal is to learn how logic works so we can get closer to understanding programming languages and logic gates, which are used in circuits to do the calculations. In order to do that, we start by studying logic that is closer to the classical logic from Philosophy. In order to do that it is convenient to have an order of operations so we don't need to use so many grouping symbols. Just like when we do arithmetic we would rather write 3+7*8 instead of 3+(7*8). Finally, I'll note the order of operations presented here is NOT consistent among all logical systems (and it isn't quite the one I would pick); but it is the one used in our textbook and thus the one we will use for this course.

I don’t know why it wasn’t clicking that the reason we have to switch the multiplied number to the base is because we were multiplying in regular base ten, until this video

Does it matter in any way if the statement is a fact? Say, Cats are leathery birds. This is a statement that is true or false, but it is false. Does it matter at all that the statement is false other than for the definition of a statement?
@timzick22253 жыл бұрын
As long as it is something that is true or false, it is a statement (even if we don't know which one it is).
