Your instructions are amazing. I just made my second scrub cap using your video. I’ve tried other videos and tutorials, but I came back to yours. I love the French seam and how do you do the bindings. And.. it fits 😊! Thank you and your ‘camera person’ for taking the time to make the video. It was extremely helpful. My sister and my niece are both nurses in the OR and they are very happy that I was able to make a cap out of special material that they had.

I love the thought that has gone into making this nice on the inside too. I am going to be making caps for children who are having surgery and they take them home. Fat quarters is such a good idea and you are really economical with the fabric. Thank you so much for this pattern and video 😊

Love that u did this video and the other one with the pen from tractor supply.. do they have to be able to come out of the pen during the day and free range? I live near a road . Can I get a big run to go in front of their house and that b enough? Thanks for the help.
@sullivansteph Жыл бұрын
Hello Cheri! They do not have to free range. If they free range, they are susceptible to predators. Mine stay in the pen/coop at all times.

If you put your hand under the chicken (palm under and spread fingers between under the inside of their legs) instead of over the chicken you will find they are much calmer and start to get comfortable being held resting on your palm. If you go on top they believe you are a predator and will struggle. Never grab a chicken.

You are a wonderful teacher! You teach the absolute basics, i.e, what a fat quarter is and how to efficiently cut it; how to use the edge of your presser foot for a quarter inch seam; making sure we know to put the right sides of the fabric together, etc. Awesomeness!

What are you going to do about having a bottom panel / floor in your coop when the weather turns off cold, just wondering about that, I hope you saved the floor to install in fall/ winter time
@sullivansteph2 жыл бұрын
A bottom panel isn’t necessary where I live; it doesn’t get cold enough in the winter months.

Tx for the video. I know this is 2 yrs old now. But I bet you regret leaving the tray off to catch the droppings. The nesting boxes going right where the droppings fall means the birds likely tracked poop into the nesting boxes as they entered to lay their eggs.

I thought this was a good video with helpful information about adding hardware clothe to the bottom to prevent predators from digging in. I have been looking at getting chickens for 10 years! But I just looked at the price online and this is 549.99 now! I knew it would up more expensive, but still! I have a very handy husband and we may just try to buy the materials gradually and make something similar. Holy crap, our country has gone south really quickly.

I totally love your pattern. I have made 375 hats for a major hospital in our area. Volunteer Services at our hospital has let me know that the medical staff absolutely love them. Because I was making so many I tweeked the pattern slightly to make the process just a bit faster. I am still making more. I have a huge sewing room and am trying to use up a lot of material. I have made a few different styles but none are as good as this one. I am 80 yrs old and I have used over 100 yards of fabric. Thankyou for sharing your pattern. Happy sewing.

Thanks for this pattern! You make it seem very easy. Just checking before I cut - if we wanted to make one like the one you're wearing in the beginning of the video (with the black band at the front) - we would cut the E and 2 D's out of the black fabric and the rest out of the patterned fabric?

What about the cold wind coming through the bottomless coop? Or a preditor getting to the chickens, should they get into the run? Check the nestboxes bottom too, usually needs nailing on! Easy for a preditor to get in through the nesting boxes! They just push the floor open!
@sullivansteph3 жыл бұрын
It’s not cold enough in my area for that to be a problem. Also, I attached 1/4 inch hardware cloth to the bottom of the whole run so it is completely enclosed. No chance of a predator getting in.
@swissmaid3 жыл бұрын
@@sullivansteph they still have to hear the predator , stalking them? All that scratching and breething! Personally I don't feel, like they feel safe, but that is just me!. And bythere way, even warm wind can be annoying!! You do want them to FEEL SAFE , cared for, don't you? This IS one way to make a chicken feel, you love them! Just use double page newspaper, under where they normally roost. Takes 10 sekonds in the morning to tzke ths edges and discard the newspaper. Then add fresh newspaper for a fresh smelling coop. 10 seconds work!
@sullivansteph3 жыл бұрын

I'm so happy to have found your pattern and instructions. I made it through without any problems. But the hat is so small on my head it barely touches the top of my ears. I have plenty of fabric so I'll use it to make the oval larger and the front band too. Thank you though. Great job!

Pity it is made of pine wood! Ceder wouldbe better. Ok if you keep it under cover. Pine is not good for outdoors, otherwise I would buy it. But that will worb in no time flat! No thanks!
@swissmaid3 жыл бұрын
They would be happier with a floor in the coop. I simply put a double newspaper, under the perch. Pick it up in the morning! Put down another double page newspaper, DONE! All clean, wow, took about 15 seconds. Your chickens are going to be drafty in the winter and won't feel safe! Seeing predators through the floor, or hearing them that close, will bring stress to the chickens. Stress = no eggs. Put the floor back. Just try the newspaper trick, so fast!
