The SD45s are of SP heritage, while the F45 is of BN heritage. During this time the SD45s were still wearing SP paint, while the F45 was wearing BN paint with a flying "U".

Very cool. I was born in summer of '77 and we lived just south of the (what used to be double) tracks between Lexington Ave and Victoria St in Shoreview. Our house was within walking distance to Island Lake Elementary School. I remember Soo Line and BN going by every day. I even still have some HO trains from back then. Great layout!

I wondered why the 2554 sounded like a GP9 but had the front of a GP38. I did a little digging and learned it is indeed a GP9 but was wrecked and rebuilt using a Southern Pacific GP35 hood. It was unofficially called a GP22. And as a bonus it's working with 416, one of the Dolly Sisters!

Thank You for sharing this! Brings back many fond memories. Watching and listening to those ole F7's kind of puts a lump in my throat. I loved watching from trackside back in the 70's as a kid. Ken,....

I only saw a SOO F7 once at bennsenville....other than that when I lived in illinois I lived near the CNW so I saw alot of theirs running Belvidere local on the weekends when mom would go out....in 1979 dad worked at CRIP so I do remember Fs and Es pulling freight ...

Incredible layout, incredible scenery. And, I like that the trains travel along at a good speed - and not continuously plod so slowly that one can count the number of times to wheels revolve, lol. That drives me crazy, since prototype train speeds are variable.

Love them old green/white BN. GE U 330Cs. Pushn them filled coal cars back. Their sound is so strong, almost sounds like my 1951 John Deere A tractors, more please, more, 💪🤠😁👍👍

Bob, the Minnesota Commercial has several ALCo diesels, including the only 2 surviving RS-27 units. Both units were bought from the Green Bay & Western.

Wow, 5 locomotives and still lugging up that steep 2% grade. I remember seeing 8 gp7s and gp9s lashed up on a cpr grain train lugging up grade by my parents cottage at ingolf. It could be heard almost 20 miles away.
