There was actually a AMA Grand National race for a few years in the late 70's at the Cow palace in San Francisco - concrete track and all. The Cow Palace track was larger than this, but it was still a *short* track. I saw King Kenny win one night on a Yammie 360. Good times. :-)

@@stevehageman6785 I've seen some videos of that place and it looked sick. Indoor short tracks aren't everyone's cup of tea but I still enjoy going up to Timonium. And the track in Salem, Oregon looks awesome!

In the late 70's in Northern Calif. We had indoor 'Cement' short tracks in the winter. To get the tires 'sticky', people would spray 'Engine Start' on them, the whole place smelled of Either. Looking back I am surprised that the whole place didn't just blow up one night! Ha, ha, ha, ha.....

Itt's sad ATF hasn't' put together a schedule. That's a bad sign. I've been watching the decline of racing for years. Cost and viewership makes sponsorship opportunity scarce. I hope they can continue because it's always a great show.

Could be me but I cant help but feel like they f-ded up by banning the indians. They just showed ((again) (british bikes and later japanese bikes written out of the rulebook) they dont really want innovation in the sport. If there is no innovation, why should riders, big brands and fans invest their time if your brand or favourite is just going to be written out of the rulebook after a few seasons in favour of stuff thats already been used since the 60's do you really want to turn it into a form of speedway where they still use a very ristrictive rulebook and 40's technology? I was actually exited to see yamaha and honda close the gap to the indians all be it with ristrictors help but still thats better than outright banning a brand and losing all that marketing as well. Next season they will move away from light and nimble almost prototype flattrackers and move to bigger bulkier machines again with more mass. Wich takes away from the sport I think and increases risks for the riders as well. So I fully understand Kopp for choosing for a road racing career over an organisation that just essentially banned its biggest posterboy/marketingtool/brand. I dont think they realised what Indian and to a lesser exstent royal enfield brought to the table in terms of marketing for the sport on a worldwide level.

There is a line in "The Eight Laws of the Fist" from the Bubishi that says "you must strike when the opportunity presents itself." Smart move for Kody Kopp but a definite loss for AFT.

Great episode. Agree, the series is in a valley. Getting tougher to remain optimistic on AFTs management.

A schedule any day now would help but I fear that AFT is an afterthought to a lot of the premier facilities.

@ I’m a 66 year old that’s been riding since I was 10. Although never a flat track racer (enduros & hare scrambles), it’s always been my favorite to spectate. Never understood why it’s never reached the height of GP or MX. I feel the talent of the riders in FT sometimes exceeds the skill of race series that pay big bucks. Frustrating seeing MX racers purses in millions for going boing-boing (yes there’s skill but…). The manufacturers are to blame as well as the management of AFT. Go into any showroom, won’t see many displays or promotions of FT, just road racing and MX. Just as soon as I win a couple million on a scratch-off, I’m calling CTR and have him buy the series and MAFTGA. Time to market red ball caps with that…
