I accidentally did this procedure for the regular brake pads and regular rotors. Am I screwed? I read the box for the proper procedure but I completely forgot about the cool off.

Just got my brakes serviced by a "qualified" mechanic and he left the shoes dragging. Dragging so bad, that it boiled my fluid after driving on the highway for 40 minutes. Went to exit the highway and the brakes went straight to the floor.

and the instructions say not to smear the counter surfaces
@Great_America17 күн бұрын
This is incorrect information. You orient the rotor based upon the inner vanes. The vanes will lean in one direction and should lean towards the rear of the vehicle. If you have rotors that have vanes that are not directional, then following the instructions in this video are correct.
@Great_America17 күн бұрын
As others have pointed out, the orientation is based upon the direction of the vanes inside the rotor, not the direction of the slots or cross drilled holes.

I Have the whole FWD setup, carbon pads, drilled & slotted rotors, powder coated calipers, and the stainless steel braided brake lines. They are great brakes, I have a 2008 Honda Fit Sport and these brakes have saved my life once or twice. But when it comes to the brake dust. I still get brake dust, not as much as my old pads but I definitely still get brake dust.

You guys have a great product and are a very popular option on Rock Auto. My only gripe are with your re-manufactured red calipers. I would love to get a set of them but they have very sketchy reviews across the board online and are not new. They're priced as if they were new though... Back when I was a mechanic we often times had issues with reman. calipers and eventually stopped selling them.

Ladies and gentlemen, these are track brakes. If you use them on an open road, then you might have to go into a parking lot somewhere secluded and set the pads.

For the hard braking of 40 mph to 10 mph should I have the ABS going off?
@benlanger62472 ай бұрын
yes, the function of ABS is to prevent you from locking up the brakes and sliding when you slam on them at speed. if you slam on your brakes at speed and your abs activates, it is doing its job.

Anyone used these? The carbon fiber stuff feels kinda like snake oil...composites belong on jets and airplanes, I'm not sure it belongs in my brake pads... They only offer a 90 day/3k miles warranty whereas AC Delco offers 24 month and unlimited miles warranty for less cost....

In December of 2023 I ordered a set of rotors and pads for my 2008 Ford F250 FX4 Diesel and went with the drilled and slotted rotors to dissipate heat better. My truck is 8600 pounds so stopping power is rather important. I ordered the Power Stop K2895-36 Front and Rear Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Kit and was immediately impressed with their performance, very quiet. In September 2024 I experienced what could only be described as a thunk noise, followed by a rough rubbing sound at braking. I limped the truck home and on the way determined the noise was coming from the driver's rear wheel. After removing the tire and disconnecting the caliper I could feel and see some damage to the inside rotor and pad. I found that the ceramic padding had sheared off leaving the metal shim surface in contact with the rotor. I called Power Stop and the rep sent me an email, issuing me a ticket number and requesting basic information, receipt and pictures. After sending the requested I got a confirmation that it had been received and a replacement rotor and pads were being sent FedEx and a tracking number would follow as soon as they shipped. To me that was EXCELLENT service and care. And my Chrysler which is next up for brakes in 2024 will without question be Power Stop!

I’ve done three of our family’s vehicles with power stop drilled and slotted kits. Very happy with the quality and all the hardware and pin boots provided. Little dust with the carbon-ceramic pads. Money saved doing it myself is worth the extra cost for these high quality kits. ‘04 Ram 1500, ‘09 Honda Accord, ‘13 Honda Fit. And I followed the break in procedure to the letter! Awesome products!

Not a mechanic, however, I own these exact rotors and pads. Purchased them from Rock Auto and installed them since 2021. They are great. Here is my advice, however, choose not to follow it. This break in method is BS, with all due respect. All you need to do is reset your odometer to 0 miles, and either go into the city, or just drive normally, and do your best to avoid braking hard. Do this for 500 miles (not all at once, just overtime). I know this sounds ridiculous, but back in 2021 is when I called around a bunch of mechanics, asking if they do this break in procedure when installing new rotors, and every last one of them said no. Because 1. They would have to charge extra to do this break in procedure. 2. They would physically have to drive each vehicle. 3. Insurance will not let them. 4. Do you really want them driving around town doing this procedure. 5. They do not have the space to even do this procedure. Which is why they just install it and tell each customer to drive normally for 250-500 miles, THEN you can return to using your vehicle for driving off cliffs, burnouts, and drag racing. (Joke). Hope this helps.
@Harmonic14Ай бұрын
People are worrying about the bedding procedure too much. Just drive normally for a week and you'll bed them in fine

I have spent way too long addressing this exact question: Should you apply anti seize to a well cleaned hub before installing your new rotor? After talking to lots of brake people with varying opinions, here is the answer I'm going with. Spend your time making sure the hub is very clean of rust or any build up. Sometimes the rust is like black piles of rust and you need to get aggressive in that area. You MUST get your hub flat or you will have major issues. While applying anti seize will help you in your next rotor change, there is a good chance that it will not allow the rotor to fully seat. So with the ONLY advantage being (potentially) saving you from 20 minutes of work removing your stuck on rotor (easy) and cleaning your hub the next time you replace your rotor, there is no other reason to use it. With the small chance of your beautiful new rotor not mating correctly with the clean hub, this is the real issue. So with all this said, I DON'T use anti seize on the hub before placing rotor. While many disagree and the chance of issues or imbalance is slight, it's not worth taking the chance JUST to save myself a few minutes three years from now when I replace the rotor.

Sometimes it's the pass rattling around. Replace anti rattle springs and inspect new Powerstop pads for defects out of the box.
