regarding engine size - my first bike was a 125cc honda super cub and I rode the wheels off that thing, then traded up for an 800cc triumph, which I regret. There's something magical about smaller displacement bikes. I'm 6'1 and asthetically the triumph looks more my size but I definitely realized that a smaller displacement bike at 45mph is all you really need to explore a city in a really satisfying way. Don't ever sell your 250cc!

The 250 is wonderful. I live in a city with a metro population of around 150,000, so this size of a bike is great for being in town and the surrounding area. My second bike is an '84 GS450, and I have a hard time imagining why I'd need more power. The 450 seems terribly heavy from the context of the TU I don't think anything beyond 650 is in my future. The 125 Super Cub looks like a rad bike! Maybe you'll get there again :)

For this year brother, I'm gonna recommend again an autonomous drone camera! That camera will follow you from behind, track you from the side, the front, and above. Fly it to a spot, get your "ride past" shot, then pull the drone to you. No more going back to get your camera. I bought one and opened up my videography. I purchased the Hover X1, but the X1 Pro is even better and I'll be picking that up soon.

In my heart, I know that you're right. It'll probably happen eventually. At the moment I'm working on trying to improve my skills on real cameras, rather than just using the GoPro for everything. I also have access to an Insta 360 for the next few months so I'm going to have to get a grip on that, too. There'll be a new video out which I greatly enjoyed making, but there's also very little ride footage in it because the scenery was too much of a vibe. A drone would've been good to have

@wellhowdidigetthere
@wellhowdidigetthere 8 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. I'm honestly underdressed most of the time. Now that I've started riding bigger motorcycles I've got a pair of regular insulated rubber boots, which is way better than just packing on socks under uninsulated boots. I usually wear some thick leggings, jeans, and waterproof pants. On top it's a sweater, collared shirt, and 3 jackets. For winter 23/24 I had a helmet with an open face and a visor. On super cold days I'd pack a scarf around my chin. Once I started going over 60km/h on a motorcycle I simply had to get a full face helmet. I wear regular ski mitts most of the time. On the Ruckus it didn't matter very much if I was underdressed, but at 110km/h on the highway I've had to be far more careful about closing up air gaps. Thanks for checking out the videos!

@wellhowdidigetthere I have a Honda Trail CT125, and a Himalayan. It's true, the lower speed of the smaller bike makes wind less of an issue. I got caught once on a 260km trip where 2/3 of the time it was a mix of snow and blizzard. The other 1/3 was rain. I had windproof and waterproof gear on. I was still soaked by the end but learned the value of wind protection. And "hot hands" heat packs. Ride safe, amigo.

@@TheRealTragicallyInept on the super rainy days I wear a pair of chest waders meant for fishing, and a fairly heavy Helly Hansen rain jacket on top. That way the rain would have to work its way almost up to my shoulders from the bottom of my jacket to get me wet. Nice short video with a beautiful environment in autumn colors. As you say about the battery, it's true that it can happen. Two years ago, after winterizing my Suzuki Tu 250 X in the spring, I wanted to go out for the first time, but I didn't start. The relay kept switching, but the battery didn't cooperate. So I put it on charge, but at the time I had no idea that there were any AGM batteries where the electrolite is impregnated in glass fleece. These batteries must not be charged with a standard charger, but with another special one. At that time, I unknowingly destroyed the battery, the voltage at the poles was good, but the internal current was small. I ordered a Ctek charger, which is suitable for charging all kinds of motorcycle batteries, but I also had to order a new battery because the existing one was dead. One is still learning, now I have the batteries removed from the motorcycles in a place in the workshop where the temperature is constant and I measure them continuously with a multimeter. I don't ride in the winter, but I meet motorcycles here even now when the weather is better.

Hi, you're really good for riding in the winter. You can see that you won't be afraid of the terrain and the tires with that large tread are cool, but noisy as you say. I shouldn't even talk about it and it's certainly not okay because I still have the original tires on my Suzuki Tu 250 X from 2000. They still have a nice tread, because they have ridden less than 3000 km on the motorcycle, but the tires are just old! I try not to ride in the rain because it could be dangerous and I leave them on the bike for now.

I ride a similar mix of on road and offroad as you, mostly mud and dirt, and I really, really like the pirelli MT60s. Quiet on the road, probably due to the slimmer, rounded profile. There's very little space between the knobs, so they're smooth on the road, but the knobs are deep and dig into softer terrain. I can't reccomend them enough. I should add, I have also ridden them in the snow with great success. :)

Hi, nice video, great motorcycle and great chat. I also have a Suzuki TU 250 X from 2000, but this model is still with a carburetor, so I can't forget the choke before starting. The motorcycle rides nicely and has its own distinctive charm, greetings from the Czech Republic.

@wellhowdidigetthere 22 күн бұрын
Thanks! My other motorcycle is a 1984 Suzuki GS450. I frequently forget to turn off the choke, then find I'm revving like crazy when I come to a stop for the first time. I'm a little surprised that a 2000 wouldn't have an automatic choke, but it's not like the TUs are fancy
@vladimirlojka3740
@vladimirlojka3740 22 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for your reply. Before starting, I always pull the choke all the way and then start it, let the engine run at higher revs and start putting on my motorcycle jacket and other things. After a while, I take the choke off and it is in the second position, I leave the engine running again for about five minutes before putting on my helmet and gloves. Then the choke is completely off and only then can I drive the Suzuki Tu 250 X. It's a slow warm-up process or a ritual before driving, but you just can't do without it. I forgot the important step, turn the petrol tap to the ON position, it probably wouldn't be possible without it, right? Sure, that's all a known thing, but it's worst on the first ride after winter, sometimes it happens to me that I completely forget about the choke. Starting with a choke has its charm, as well as, for example: starting a YAMAHA SR 400 motorcycle, which does not have an el. starter, but only kick start and that's also great. Motorcycles are just fine!
@wellhowdidigetthere
@wellhowdidigetthere 22 күн бұрын
@@vladimirlojka3740 that certainly is a bit of a ritual! I'm fortunate that the carb on the 1984 has three settings: automatic on/off, free flow, and reserve tank. It's probably about a minute of idle to get it warmed up enough to run correctly, but my excitement gets the better of me when I leave with the choke on. Is the choke connected to the carb, or do you have a lever on the handlebars? Mine is on the bars so at least I don't have to stop when the choke is still on. I looked at the SR400. Super cool! That must be Yamaha's version of the GS450. Interestingly, the GS450 is also an American version of the Japanese bike. Whereas Japan's put limits on bikes over 400cc, the Suzuki's exported to N. America were bored out a little extra to be 450s. I'll need to do some reading on this SR

@vladimirlojka3740 22 күн бұрын
Hi, I just watched your video with the Suzuki GS 450 motorcycle and I have to say that it is very nice. It has a Suzuki Tu 250 X has the choke under the tank by the carburetor and if you want to see it, it's possible. I also make videos, but with a different focus, it's fishing. In two videos, the Tu 250 motorcycle can be seen, once in the garage and then while riding. New Japanese motorcycles were imported to the Czech Republic only minimally, the Tu 250 X is imported from Italy and the Yamaha SR 400 from Germany. Now there is a large offer of motorcycles in our country, both used and new. I love retro motorcycles and that's why I bought a new Benelli Imperiale 400 motorcycle two years ago, so I have four in my garage and it looks like I'm completely crazy!

A few years ago my leg was injured in a car accident, and I couldn’t ride a big bike, so I bought a TUx. I used it for the usual stuff: commuting, dirt road exploration, errand running. My wife wanted to go on an adventure, so we loaded it up with a bunch of our camping gear and rode it 500+ miles down to Hatteras Island, where we stayed for a week at the National Seashore camp ground for a week. 1/3 of the trip was on Interstates, the rest mostly on 2 and 4 lane state roads. The bike did fine. We averaged about 200 miles a day, for a total of around 2000 miles. The trip was uneventful (except for getting soaked in a storm on the way home. We were very surprised at how easy the trip was on such a small bike. Stopping was more of a concern than speed, but we just made sure we maintained plenty of space. We enjoyed the trip so much that we did it again the following summer. We are getting older, so we tour together on our Vulcan 900, with its comfortable Mustang seat and copious leg room, but I still ride the TUx on solo trips and just for fun. The 2011 Tux now has more than 50,000 miles on it. It still has the original chain, sprocket, and spark plug. I adjust the valves when I feel in the mood, change the oil once a year and lube the cables, clean the chain ever 5-600 miles, and that’s pretty much it. The only repair it has required was a new plastic gear thing to the speedometer, plus a bit of repairs after sliding on some loose gravel. The brake lever is still bent, but not enough to bother with it. She’s been a great bike, one that has been able to do anything I’ve asked of her, just at 70 mph or less! A bit of advice: the TUx likes to ride at her own pace. Let her and you’ll both be happier. Pushing her harder just frustrates both the bike and the rider. She’s a faithful little donkey of a bike, not some flighty thoroughbred. Ride accordingly and you’ll never outgrow her.

The downside I see to the bike is that it doesn't have ABS. If you are able I would suggest getting a bike with ABS. I currently am looking to replace my 20 year old bike which does have ABS. I like small bikes so I am planning to get the BMW G310GS. You might like that bike. Another bike in that class would be the Kawasaki Versys 300. Both bikes fuel injected with ABS and reasonably priced in my opinion. (by the way, i just "liked" and "subscribed". Peace from Connecticut USA.

Thanks for checking out the channel and your kind words. Prior to getting this 250, which was my first bike, I did look into the Yamaha XT250 and the G310. It's surprising how many more features and superior build quality improvements are on the 310 despite not being terribly far apart in price. However, the cheaper XT250 was still going to end up around $14,000, which was simply far too much money for a first motorcycle. I also liked that the new Trail 125 had an ABS option, but that was still going to be around $8,000 and still did not have enough power to reach highway speeds. I may get something with ABS in the future but I'd have to have a very good deal

@@wellhowdidigetthere I understand budget is always a factor and every bike has its pros and cons. We all must make the best decision that suit our needs. The key is to be safe. Since you don't have ABS just be super careful not to grab too much front brake. This was a great video and I look forward to watching more of your adventures.

For being 40 years old it's incredible how well everything still works. Fires right up and runs perfectly
