Hey im doing a school project that is going to closely mirror this but im going to design my own car, How long did it take you to sand your mold before it was perfect?
@scalercmodels92612 ай бұрын
In total approx. 3-4 hours of work from the first coating until it was done. But not in one go - including the time needed to dry the filler and/or the spray, it was 2-3 days. It's like filler - sanding - filler - sanding - filler - sanding - zincspray - sanding and then it depends if you still see dents or bubbles, maybe again some filler and sanding and the very final is always zincspray and sanding with fine sandpaper (400 or more)

@scalercmodels92612 ай бұрын
In principle start woth a chassis which would suit the car/body in the best way (width/wheelbase and height). Then search for blueprints or drawings of your dream car and adopt it to the chassis (maybe it needs to be a bit wider or longer to fit). Then make up you mind if the shape of your car allows the mold to be on one piece of if you need separate sections to take it later out of the body. A 1:18th or 1:24th model also helps to find the right shape. In my channel you find many videos about different mold and bodies which I made, so you can get roughly an idea about the process

Hello, do you use PETG plastic, right? After painting the outer shell, does that make the PETG plastic more prone to breaking than when it's unpainted?
@scalercmodels92613 ай бұрын
According to my experience, it doesn't make a difference if painted or not. PETG is in general more brittle than PC.
@Michael376192 ай бұрын
@@scalercmodels9261 Researching this because my bodies were cracking and breaking soo quickly, I don't remember where I found this but I tried this and it works amazingly well. after the painting is complete, you should line the inside of the body shell with Mesh Wallboard Joint Tape, then cover the Mesh Tape with Shoe-Goo or Goop that is found at Home Depot. After doing so, I have found my RC Bodies are lasting 10,000 Times Longer!!!!!

Was there any reason not to scribe in the window and door lines into this mold? Does the lines make it harder to vacuum form?
@scalercmodels92613 ай бұрын
I wasn't sure if it would look good on these Hypercar bodies. So I made the body first without it and maybe I will use a pen liner to draw doors, hoods etc. I haben't done so yet but I'm still thinking to do it...
@CiaranWhelan3 ай бұрын
Thank you for these details, I totally appreciate what you have done to step us through the process. What were the wooden pieces for that you screwed on the front wheel arches for?
@scalercmodels92613 ай бұрын
The real car had wide fenders around the front wheel. I used screws to fixate this part because I wasn't sure if the position is 100% correct for my chassis. If not, I could re-arrange them when pulling another body. But in the end, they were already right at this position
@CiaranWhelan3 ай бұрын
Fantastic video, and it now makes sense to me why it is made into pieces like that. Can you tell me why there is cloth tape on those corners when you pulled this from the mold?
@scalercmodels92613 ай бұрын
Because I used a heat gun in addition for difficult areas (ehilst the vacuum was still running), at some point it was too much, and a small hole was in the sheet (luckily "outside" the body. But I wanted to continue to form a concave area with the heat gun so I had to fix it with some tape to remain a vacuum

This is awesome work, you're seriously talented! Besides the body itself looking literally spot on original, I'm especially impressed with the paintjob, stickerwork and attention to detail. I love it! How did you get so good at modelling the bodies with wood, just learning by doing? I'm guessing you use profiles too to help with the proportions?
@scalercmodels92614 ай бұрын
Mostly just 3-view prints and a lot of pictures of the original car, if available also a 1:43 or 1:24 scale model car. For the 499p I had indeed only pictures and rough rendering from the side and top-down
