By 1:41, when you were talking about the complicated transformations not being fun, I totally agree with you. I've been getting Tobots and Metal Cardbots lately, and they are FUN, big, heavy, and easy to transform, but not so easy that they feel preschoolish. The two semi trucks in the Metal Cardbot line are absolutely amazing toys. And I'm with you about people who don't open Transformers. The POINT of Transformers is to transform them! Unless you are super rich and get two every time, one to open and one to keep, then I don't really get it. That being said, to each his own. If collecting but not opening IS the purpose of your collection, then you do you! Whatever makes you happy in your hobby is what you should do. I don't HAVE to understand it for YOU to enjoy it. Collecting anything, even toys, is for the collector, not for anyone else.

Cool video & great point at the end. It's nowhere remotely close to more modern 3rd party tf combiners imo. They use a ton of die cast, are 100% fully painted nowadays, & 1 limb would be twice as complex as this whole figure. They're not held to the same constraints tht Hasbro or Takara designers are cost wise. Still I enjoyed watching this thing combine & you did a nice job explaining everything. Hey, Jeff. While your channel is fairly new to me, this toy line is completely unfamiliar. Judging by the pictures of the two 'Glory Alliance' alternate versions you included near the video's end, it seems you purchased an entry-level option. It offers less complexity and lower material quality seemingly for a bargain. I'd have to assume its alternates are more sturdy and hefty, with more challenging conversions and fewer shortcomings, at greater expense. In the case of the oversized version, do the individual components possess their own robot modes as with the 3-In-1? Yes, I could visit the retailer website you mentioned in order to answer my question and address other concerns, perhaps. But that's a den of temptation I don't wish to stumble into, presently. I've shopped there before, and my past experiences have taught me I must allot a more limited budget of time and money - and adopt a very cautious mindset - when venturing into that space. Failing those preconditions, foolish spending can result too easily. Nevertheless, thanks for bringing these exotic alternatives to my attention. I might explore them further and more seriously under better circumstances.
@classiccomicsforum
@classiccomicsforum 2 күн бұрын
@@Steve_Vendetta i alternate between thinking this is the entry level version (or perhaps even a KO of the original) and whether there are truly just different versions of this toy for sale, each with their own unique attributes. I bought this one because it has more detail, suggesting that it would not be the entry level version, but I've never before seen a robot with two versions for the sale at the same price point that are similar, but not the same. Another commenter has explained to me that the larger version may not actually exist. He owns the larger individual robots, and they do not combine. So if the only other version sells for the same amount, what do we make of that..?

@@classiccomicsforum Good question. It alludes to the uncertainty and shaky trustworthiness associated with 'ALI' webstores. Also, there's often a communication barrier between its vendors and Western customers which can't always be overcome - important ideas can get lost in translation. The result: a truly frustrating experience. It's not always the case, but definitely more frequent than with eBay or Amazon, for example. If you had the disposable income, would you pull the trigger on the 3-In-1 version? To sate any curiosity and have tactile interaction with the figure, then ultimately compare it - in video form - with the version you already own? I wonder if anyone else on KZbin has done so . . .
@classiccomicsforum

@@Steve_Vendetta i see it as more exciting than frustrating never truly knowing what you're going to get BUT only when the price point is reasonable. I was willing to pay $65 on this experiment, but I don't think I'd want to double that without a little more assurance. So many other toys to get to, anyway. I think I'll let this mystery sit unless someone else takes the plunge on the other design and feels like telling me about it.

0:45 See, I get the appeal of collecting action figures and keeping them sealed on the card. I don't _do_ it, but I _get_ it. They're there to look good, but not much else. But Transformers and their equivalents are multiple toys in one, and by leaving them sealed, even if you can see one _form_ of the toy... everything else it can do is just wasted; you might as well just get a statue. I actually have a couple of figures from a different part of this line (as KRBrickBot says, they appear to be called Iron Knights Raiden; they're another of my finds when I was in Korea in July). The ones I have are the green jet and yellow truck, but mine have robot modes (pretty big ones, maybe 10" without measuring them), well articulated with a lot of ratchets, and don't combine. They also come with little articulated robots that form the heads.

I'm happy to know that some companies are still making ridiculously awesome robot toys for kids, I've had my eye on the Tobot combiners for a while. In Transformers last hurrah of made of crazy awesome robot toys was Unicron Trilogy 20 years ago. I only got Cybertron Optimus Prime last month and he's the epitome of amazing Transformers I remember from my childhood. Don't get me wrong Hasbro Takara has made some awesome Transformers in the last 20 years but those were the last ones that had hefty size and gimmicks with light and sound was Cybertron a lot of the toy line since have been good but not quite as well made.

I loved Titans Return, myself, and not just for the giant Titan class dudes. I really like how they did the Headmasters gimmick and thought a lot of the toys were quality, though the heads, themselves, were a little lazy. Power of the Primes could have been great, but it's almost like they pumped out two great toys and then someone said, "Sorry. That was our whole design budget. Let's turn out some crap now." I think there are some GOOD Transformers still being made today (that Missing Link Prime looked interesting, for example) but there's too much pressure to create a large line of toys that cost a certain amount to make and must sell for a certain amount at retail. It stifles true ingenuity, and that's a damn shame. Corporate business sense and creativity seldom go hand in hand.

@@classiccomicsforumIn a fit of indecision I bought both versions of Missing Link Optimus Prime/Convoy and am so glad I did. I also recently got the Japan only Takara exclusive Brave Commander Optimus Prime from Transformers One and he's smaller than the glory days but still a heftyish robot bigger and more solid than most contemporary Leader class toys Hasbro/Takara make. I love some of the designs they've done for the likes of Cyberverse but the toys really aren't good enough I'd pay an absolutely irresponsible amount for a fully transforming combining singing dancing set of Cyberverse Dinobots.

I certainaly agree that toys are just missing that certain something and heft these days. If you took the old mindwipe figure and compared it to it's Titans Return version. You can clearly see how much you lose for that little extra posability and play features. It just doesn't feel like the same in the end with the new version. If they just gave the old design updated engineering for greater posability it would have been a much better toy than the Titans Return toy. So I get where you're coming from. As for the other versions of this figure you reviewd here. I like my combiners to be big hefty monstrostiities. So I might have gone with the really expensive version myself if I got this guy. But that's just me. I am just the kind of person that would prefer to get the version that has all the play features over the simpler iderations. Especially since I noticed with these kind of figures when they take out anything from the original version it only ends up hurting the design badly. Sure the overall combine look may look nicer, but I bet dollars to doughnuts the expensive one is a much higher quality figure for the cost.
