I think that they were originally planned to go on a field but it was waterlogged from all the rain. So it was panic stations to get them where they could.

I was wondering if you’d be there TL. Didn’t see you. Great event tho and imo better than Hertfordshire County Showground. The railway element added a little something extra to it. Hope you had a safe journey home.

You know I could have sworn I'd replied, but apparently now. Yeah I loved the Railway element but would have enjoyed it much more without the rain and my bad back lol
@smogmonster1876Ай бұрын
@@TheTransportLens I must’ve been lucky TL as I missed the rain. Although there were some damp roads not too many miles from Quainton. Hope your back is better now. Take care.

Brilliant display on show but clearly, there so much more left to do! The reason will no doubt be due to how hard it is to get the specific parts for each one that requires a replacement component, the patience of the team behind it is phenomenal!

Yeah it's the nature of restoration and preservation. Never enough money or manpower usually. I believe some of the buses that are not on the road are awaiting restoration and some may end up as donor vehicles. All that said it was a fab collection there and I had so much fun wandering round.

As a kid & teenager I rode on Bartons buses for years circa 70's/early 80's. I have many happy memories including the conductor who used to freak us schoolkids (early 70's?) )out by removing his false teeth, me & a mate piling old bus tickets & fagbuts from the ashtray on an old lady's hat as she dosed one Summer journey, p&ssed ourselves laughing as she got off the buses ...& going to gigs in Nottingham early 1980 NWHM. Lastly I remember the time a double decker went by mistake under Sawly Bridge and got stuck ripping out the front of the top deck. The damaged bus was parked up at Chilwell depot for years afterwords. Very sad to see the company sold, the old garages in Melton, Kegworth etc closed, those happy days gone. Going full circle a lot of these sort of coaches were used to live in when I was on the road, buses have always been a part of my life, till now: I live in Lincolnshire, no fecking bus service: progress, pah humbug. Thanks for posting. Anyone got one for sale?

Its nice to eventually be able to put a voice behind The Transport Lens. A nice strong Geordie accent as well. They are a good sort, in general the Geordies and people generally from the Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Washington, Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Middlesborough, Hexham, Alnmouth and Morpeth areas.
