Your feeding problems are because it's green.

Loving the old machines. It looks a bit awkward trying to get the oats to feed with the bat reel. I live near Oxford in England i got 2 old Gleaners, lovely old things. Bat reels don't seem to get used at all over here, we have pick up reels to help with laid crop. The one thing i would like on my Gleaners not a radio or aircon but on the go reel speed adjustment. Nothing quite like seeing an old combine still working.

Thanks for the comment, we agree the bat style reel does not do good with down grain. The platform head we were using hadn’t been used in a few years so it took some time to get things set and shined up.

@@chickenman3825 I know some of the early British combines did have bat reels but they seemed to stop being used here in the late 50s. Its good to keep the old stuff going. I done an extensive rebuild on one of mine this year. I had to replace the differential due to a massive gear failure. I decided to do a overhaul of all the internal working parts while i had access to them. I have some video clips of the process on my channel. Im hoping to collect some parts from the combine fabrication shop this week. The overhaul has ended up costing me about 3 times more than i bought the combine for. I do think if you do a job its always best to do it properly. Nothing worse than a rushing and cutting corners with big repair jobs.

Putting a finger pick up on the reel would help in lodged grain from someone who has had to pick up that common enemy of all rice growers downed rice...

Chris Johnson in one of my other videos we did combine oats, we were having trouble with them feeding into the head but I do believe they did clean alright

If they aren't coming off the stem, you need to tighten up the clearance between the concaves and the rotor, and also make sure rotor speed is correct

I'm surprised no one has suggested by now that you wouldn't have had the feeding problems if you were pulling it with a green tractor.

Just can't beat the old stuff! I am in the process of acquiring some old/smaller equipment to start farming a bit as a hobby. Just for the love of the equipment and lifestyle and being outside working with the land. Can't beat any of that!

Hi , we are writing from the middle but bottom of Australia. As we have different old International tractors, has your Farmal got what we would call a live drive pto drive , meaning that the pto is still turning when you put your foot on the clutch to reverse ?

Deborah Flint yes it still does. We have a John Deere 70 that also has live PTO but first gear is to fast, and the m-ta can be slowed down more
