There are a few documentaries on the making of Dark Side among others and the Zeppelin blimp is called a Zeppelin because Count Von Zeppelin is the person who invented it, they were used by Germany to bomb London during WW 1 before aeroplanes.

The horns make the chorus for me. I also see this arrangement as dense. Moon didn't leave any space as a rule. The guitar and the horns just become pads in the chorus to clear space.

The reason this song is so great is because it takes you on a journey. Listen to the lyrics it takes you to a far off place that is like another world. The instrumentals put you into a trance and Robert Plant takes you to another universe

This song is a shining example of why it is so difficult to define a genre of music that can be associated to Pink Floyd. PF is its own unique genre of music, never duplicated by any others aside from the cover bands like Brit Floyd and Australian Floyd. Genesis might be the closest match (stretching it a bit) of other bands of that era to PF.

ever heard of kashmir wool? kashmir is a place near the himalayas. It has been a hotly contested region with India and Pakistan fighting each other for control for a long long time.

Keep going... it keeps gettin' better into and through the 2nd album. To this day, I toss Boston on the turntable to enjoy and... share with all my neighbors. I just can't help it. Boston MUST be played LOUD!

No... he didn't sing but he had enough sense to bring in arguably the best male rock vocalist ever to hold a microphone, Brad Delp (RIP). Tom Scholz was an MIT grad in engineering and invented so much proprietary technology used on this album that he had to introduce it to other producers. Mind you, in 1976 no sophisticated computers, no synthesizers used, no auto-tune. Best debut album at the time (if not forever) and every song on their first two albums stands on its own. In '76, Boston hit and minds were blown.

It is one guy's voice (Brad Delp) being layered by the genius of Tom Scholz engineeing innovation. The bassline in this song is beyond compare and I dare you to find one better. In 1976 this debut album blew everyone's mind. Sholtz was an MIT graduate in engineering and the technology was proprietary. And... yes, the guitarist was the founder and created all the music.

The instrumentals & vocals may indeed be complex, but the message is as simple as it gets. How a blue sky can have such a profoundly positive effect upon anyone and everyone, especially if they've ever been in the gloom of depression or depressed by gloomy weather that has gone on for way too long. Thanks for a great generational reaction.

Bizarrely this song was a charted hit three times, and Elton released all three versions. This is from 1974, a live version from a concert in Australia in 1886 (Elton received news that he had nodules on his vocal cords that could be cancer. He wanted to finish the tour before he got surgery so he didn't disappoint the fans. The nodules were removed afterwards and were benign, but the damage to his vocal cords changed his voice. And the live version at his close friend Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.
