I was there as well- why is Dave Johnson calling the TV race??? Phil called that race to perfection.

And here we have Jean Laurenz, who did it exactly right. Because she wore knee-high riding rubber boots during her riding lessons, just as prescribed by the USEF ‼️

Why they paid Dave Johnson to dub the call of the race when Phil Georgeff @ Arlington was one of the best ever, is beyond my imagination

Just an earlier version over a shorter distance (10F) of Highland Reel's win in the 2016 King George at Ascot and the 2016 Breeders Cup Turf at Santa Anita. This horse was tough as nails, could run all day, and didn't mind shipping all over the world. But probably his biggest asset was being the type of horse who didn't mind going straight to the lead and setting his own pace as he did here in the Secretariat Stakes, in the King George, and in the Breeders Cup Turf, and if you made the mistake of letting him dictate his own fractions on the front end as happened in all 3 races, you just simply weren't gonna catch him when it came to the business end of the race. His victories when he was on the lead were probably his most visually impressive, but he was always as equally capable coming from off the pace to win big races as well. He didn't retire to stud a 7-time G1 winner because he could only win being in the lead out on the front end. Highland Reel knew how to finish a race as well as he knew how to lead one.

He didn't always win, but Dandino rarely ran bad races because he always showed a ton of heart in his races. Great effort winning this race showing a second burst after getting checked and having to come off heels trying to split horses the first time Ryan Moore was asking him to go and win the race.

Debussy was a G3 horse at best in the UK when he came over for this race. He just happened to have a world class trainer (John Gosden), and was ridden by a very good jockey that day in William Buick. On the whole though, he was certainly no Cape Blanco, and Gio Ponti should've been able to have beaten him.

Such a shame he bowed a tendon in the Marlboro Cup. He beat the winner of that race, Lemhi Gold, easily here. He would have won Horse of the Year.

Frankie should have come up the rail on the turn then angled out in the stretch. It would have been a photo that could have gone either if he had.

When I was addicted to gambling I made a lot off of betting on her.. Went to GA and no more losing tons of $. Horse racing is incredibly cruel. Funny I'm even saying this since I grew craving to be a jockey.

For all the world, Treasure Beach looked certain to become a top-shelf performer for Aidan O'Brien & Ballydoyle in 2011. He defeated King George & Coral Eclipse winner Nathaniel in the Chester Vase, won the Irish Derby, and came to the states and won the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington. And that's not including being really unlucky in my opinion to have literally gotten nabbed right on the wire by Pour Moi in the Epsom Derby. After 2011 he unfortunately never produced anything remotely closely to this level of form again, but his 3YO campaign was certainly rock solid form.

I was at the Fairplex in Pomona,CA, this race was supposed to be available to bet. I bet Mill Native, I believe he was about 40 to 1, the clerk gave me the wrong race, he for some reason was having difficulty,my fault for not checking my ticket, I should have bet the race sooner because it was about to go off, thinking That I had my $20 ,to win and place on him, what a big let down as I saw the mistake that was made. I picked him off breeding,he was a son of Raise A Native, most likely from one of his final crops.
