Have actually done the CIEE TEFL and have two years teaching in Thailand at a University near Bangkok (Thanyaburi - R.M.U.T.T. ). Have had limited experience with their competitors. XploreAsia seemed more responsive. Greenheart was difficult to get a hold of CIEE did respond when I expressed interest in another Teach in Thailand. Even the university that I worked at expressed interest in me coming back outside of a program). I absolutely loved my time in Thailand! Even after breaking my arm in a motorcycle accident. Be sure to get involved in a program that offers decent travel insurance! Or find your own travel insurance! Hospitals in Thailand seemed decent especially the closer you are to large metro areas! Plus hospitals in Thailand generally have staff that speak understandable English!

im going on the summer paris program and this just made me really really anxious :( i was excited/nervous before but now this has just truly scared me. i was worried about host families and like being alone in general and your experience, especially with the same company (CIEE) seems really scary :( hopefully it was just a bad example and not a definite? we’ll see :.)

Wow! This was like my 3rd choice in programs cuz I wanna do homestay. Yikes! I did know someone who had a horrible host family. She was my friend & her host "family" wouldn't pick her up after school when she had after school activities so my family would do it since we were staying as well, she would text them & they wouldn't be home for her to get inside, sometimes they wouldn't even have any dinner for her after she's come back home, they even once didn't leave any lights on for when she came back home & got mad at her for making so much noise when she tripped. It felt like we were her host family cuz they didn't treat her right! Not that we minded, but sucks they weren't good to her. Luckily she got moved to one of her friend's family & they had a blast! Idk what program she used, whatever her school at home had, but GEEZ! What the heck! I hope she let them know & they get blacklisted

Ann Arbor is a great college town. Metro Detroit has a lot going on, pro sports, concerts, world class museums, symphony orchestra, international border, should you need to flee the country. The weather is typical Midwest, 4 distinct seasons - it's really cold for about 2 weeks, most of the time, temps go up and down - it's gray, Great Lake Effect, lots of cloudy days - you will appreciate May, more than I can tell you. Michigan State is an awesome campus too. Our auto industry made us a rich, rich state for many years. Our institutions are the proof. Good Hunting - which you can do in The Great Lake State.
