two things, you should always send message to seller before buying to explain your evri issue before buying. second when i sell stuff on ebay i find the postage choice annoying, ebay will pick 3 postage services recommended and it can be a bother trying to match an item to best or cheapest service cos the prices shown on ebay dont match reality, several times i turn up to post office and get told my label isn't right for the item usually weight or size. also it depends am i getting parcel picked up from my home as to who i choose or will i take it to post office. it really depends. in other words dont assume the parcel delivery listed will be used it could just be the default one ebay selected.
@Furzepark-c8jКүн бұрын
Interesting take Jamie. As a customer, why you should I have to message and check that a seller is going to use the courier they advertise? Also, you have the option under postage policies to put "other courier", in which case, then I would message. I'm afraid we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Thanks for watching though and taking the time to comment, I'm always interested in other peoples views, which have been quite split on this one. Cheers Ian

If the seller takes an actual photo of the actual item, they are likely telling the truth when sending by royal mail, if they use stock photos like the example you used, they don't care at all.

Now on eBay, I only buy small items like cheaper collectible coins or Pokémon cards that fit into the mailbox. This is because, living in an apartment, delivery drivers are reluctant to carry items up the stairs to the apartment door and leave them near the mailboxes instead, where packages are quickly stolen. They are easily visible through the glass doors. Or, in some cases, the couriers falsely claim they attempted delivery when no one was home. That's why now, whenever possible, I shop on Amazon and opt for delivery to an Amazon locker or require a delivery code to be provided to the driver.

Evri previously know as Hermes, in my opinion is the worst delivery service in the UK. Once, they just left my ebay item outside my property, leaning ageist the door, which is just next to a pavement. Anybody could pick my parcel, read my name and address from the label etc. I mentioned this in the sellers eedback and eBay put a restriction on me, I can not buy any item where seller offered Evri as delivery option, since then I also can not make a offer to any seller to buy anything. Another story with eBay, I bought an carbonation alarm advertised as brand new by the seller, I got item with Wickes' sticker on it, item looked like a return or post-display, was previously unpacked, sticker were partly pilled off etc. I mentioned this in my neutral feedback which was quickly removed by eBay. Without this kind of honest feedback, you don't know what exactly you are buying, eBay tries to make it looks better that it is, it's became worst and worst.

It's common to see rm quoted as the carrier, even to the extent of having a rm looking tracking number. But it get delivered by evri or yodel. Both of these have a tendency to leave on doorstep on a busy street! This is why a lot don't "get delivered". There was a time when they all would attempt another delivery, rm used to be 3 times (good memory). Not a lot you can do about it. Fortunately in my case they all deliver to my address.

I sell items of various weights and sizes and I tend to find that offering 'other 48hr courier' works well as it doesn't tie me to a particular delivery service and the buyer often selects their own service which I will adhere to. Parcel Force are great for the bigger items (guitars etc) as they can come and pick them up from my house, smaller cheaper items I go with Yodel or sometimes Evri as there local shops which will accept these.

I remember once, years ago, that I paid around 7 pounds 99p for postage and packing for something or another. It said Royal Mail. Then it was sent with someone else and only cost them about a pound to send (must have been a long time ago!). I then complained, stating that they're not using the service I'd paid for and they've made an excessive amount on postage. Their reply was, "This is normal, all sellers do this, this is standard practice". Scummy seller.

@mattsime13503 күн бұрын
Royal Mail works with Evri, when the sending office cannot deliver to an address within a certain time frame or at all they transfer the order through Evri for a service that can meet the requirements. However, the system they use to book this will not tell them it cannot be delivered by Evri to your address. This issue is a post office systemic problem.
@jaybe29082 күн бұрын
Royal Mail wouldn't do this, it's the seller using the cheapest service. I work for RM and once somethings in the system it can't go out to another courier, it either sits there or gets delivered, if anything it works the other way around, we get all the big Amazon packages to out of the way places that would take them too much time to deliver and take too much space in their van.
@opiegonebad583 күн бұрын
Not only do they not tell you what shipping service they use, they also lie about where they are actually located. I have had way too many purchases where I have the US Sellers Only box clicked and then find out once I get 'tracking' that it is actually coming from China. eBay needs to crack down on this fraudulent behavior. Oh, and Amazon is no better. My last FBA "Shipped by Amazon" order took over a month to arrive. Amazon is the store of last resort for me. They are horrible.

I have been selling on ebay for about 7 months full time. I needed a part to fix something I'm wanting to sell. I thought, oh I'll support another ebay seller. Item says delivered but I never received it. Seller just kept repeating "says delivered" no matter what I said to them. Very defeating fo rme. Horrible customer service. How about opening a missing mail request? How about some guidance on finding my package instead of just throwing your hands up and saying not your problem? Really taught me a good lesson or two. 1) don't treat my customers this way and 2) maybe don't use ebay. That second one I'm struggling with. How can I sell on a platform I myself don't support?
@Keith-yn4zd4 күн бұрын
I'd rather buy on ebay because I like to support fellow sellers and not Jeff Bezos. I've sold on amazon and they tend to make as much profit on my item as I do. I no longer list on amazon. Fees are too high and the people will open brand new items and start a return where you then have to have your item shipped back to you and it's often no longer worth reselling that item now that it's used.

Hence why returned pallet business comes from
@davidwinstanley34274 күн бұрын
It's a tricky one, as a seller I am always trying to keep my postage as cheap as possible... I always offer free postage so I am not sure if it shows a specific courier to the buyer or not. At the moment I'm using Yodel because they are not only the cheapest but the paper shop where they pick up from is open from 5.30am so it means I can drop my parcels early doors and get on my way to work. The post office doesn't open 'til 9.30am and closes at 5pm so I really struggle to get there... and then they insist on measuring every parcel to make sure it is the correct dimensions... sometimes the queue is out the door. If I have to post anything to NI, Scottish Highlands & Islands, IOM or the cannel islands then I go with RM because they are cheapest and in a lot of cases the only ones that can get it there. I ebay is possibly responsible for causing a bit of confusion... when I list an item it might not sell for another 4 months, by which time evri might have a promotion on that makes them cheaper than yodel so I want to keep my postage options flexible, I don't want ebay displaying RM as the postage service to the buyer because when the sale happens they might not be the most appropriate one for me to use. I think all my sales now come through with a courier that the buyer has selected... again, not sure how they are able to that but if they pick RM then they very rarely get their choice and I've never had a buyer message me to say anything about it.
@Furzepark-c8j4 күн бұрын
Interesting David. I think you can set your postage policies to say "other courier". In which case I wouldn't buy from you, to not risk it being ebay. And I don't have an issue with that.
