Enjoy the channel. Here is the method i used to work this one. 1. Since total spent was so high, assumed at least 10 purchased of each. So: 190 (h) and 250 (s) 2. Then kept adding 19 to the (h) column, [one at a time]...then Subtracting that new (h) amount from the Total spent (922). 19 x 10...190 - 922 19 x 11... 209 - 922 Etc. 3. Kept repeating until the result left a number divisible by 25 (the price of the shoes) 4. At the 13th level: 19 x 13...247 - 922 is 675 5. 675/25 is 27 (s) 247/19 is 13 (h) 6. 27 + 13 is 40 items.

can you help me on this word problems . Daisy packed 174 muffins into 40 big and small boxes. She packed 5 muffins into a big box and 3muffins into a small box. How many big boxes of muffins did she get? 🙏🙏
@inspiredLearning
@inspiredLearning 4 ай бұрын
Each big box has 5 muffins and each small box has 3 muffins. so 5 times the number of big boxes plus 3 times the number of small boxes will give the total number of muffins which is 174. similarly the number of big boxes plus the number of small boxes is equal to 40. So if x represents the number of big boxes and y represents the number of small boxes, we can have two equations. 5x + 3y = 174 and x + y = 40. On solving these equations we can find the value of x which is the number of big boxes. Hope this helps. If you do need a video, do reply and I will try to do one asap. Thank you.

Could you please tell me whether I am correct? There are 5/2 as many apples as oranges. The ratio of apples to oranges is 5:2 and there is 1 orange. Number of apples = 5/2 x Number of oranges Number of apples = 5/2 x 1 (since there is 1 orange) Number of apples = 5/2 Number of oranges = 5/2 Both quantity of apples and quantity of oranges is 5/2. I always multiply the fraction e.g (5/2) from the phrase (5/2 as many...) to the quantity I am comparing with in order to make both quantity of apples and oranges equal. Am I correct?

Could you please tell me whether I am correct? Total red beads is 100. There are 1/5 more blue beads. How many blue beads are there? Total red beads : Total blue beads 5/5. : 6/5 5. : 6. I let 100% of red beads be 5/5. Since there are 1/5 more blue beads, I add 1/5 to 5/5 and total blue beads is 6/5. Am I correct? 5u - 100 1u - 20 6u - 20 x 6 - 120 There are 120 blue beads. I don't understand why we don't put a dollar sign in front of the variable x. Is it because variable x does not need a dollar sign because it is used to represent an unknown quantity or value in general, not an amount of money? But in the equation x = $5, the dollar sign is placed in front of the number (5) tells me that the variable x represent an amount of money. In this case, x is not just a number in math, it specifically represent $5, which is a certain amount of money.
@inspiredLearning

You are correct. As for why we don't put a $ symbol, it is contextual. Generally, while solving equations, we just put x. After solving we add the $ symbol for the answer. Hope this helps.
