OMG, you are so good at describing how to take a 'hokum" scale and bowing practice and fit it in to a song. Thank you for the recipe, I'll practice until I can fit that "sauce" into a song. Thank you so much!

The Long Neck Banjo. It's a Minor Third lower than the Regular 5 string Banjo & it's great for Transposing which is what Pete Seeger used it for.

Been lurking on these tutorials for a while, learning to play Christmas present violin . This is my favorite so far of Mike's tunes. First learned Devil's dream. Looking for some more in the style of Salt Creek! Having so much fun learning with Mike's help

Yes, the books do have tabs. I think it's a great way to learn to play because it helps you picture the fingerboard.

That a B7?
@BluegrassWithFriends
@BluegrassWithFriends 6 күн бұрын
Yes, usually a B7 will fit the song as well as a B chord. It is adding in a little 7th flavor, but still has the other notes of the B chord. You can play a regular B, but the bass notes aren't quite as handy then

Thanks for your input. You might like some of my other videos more than this short one on picking technique. You can use the playlist feature of the channel to show a list of all the guitar videos. Many or most of them start with playing through the song and then show steps for learning to play bluegrass guitar.

Hi. I like the camera angle. Please tell me, classical violinists never let rosin cake up on the fiddle, yet most fiddlers do. Why is that? Isn’t it harmful to the varnish? I wipe my down after each practice session.
@BluegrassWithFriends
@BluegrassWithFriends 6 күн бұрын
Of course it is good to wipe off the resin. I am playing a lot every day and it builds up. Fiddle players really do have a different style than violinists.

When my fiddle player gave me the stink eye, i grabbed his hippy beard, yanked it down, and gave him a swift kick in the rear. The problem was the bass player was bigger than me he yanked the last three hairs on my head out, the 14 sticking out of my nose, and gave me a swift kick in the rear. Now it hurts to sit down, my eyes are watering, and i have a bump on my head where those hairs got pulled out. I should have listened to the teacher😢😂.
