He uses it sometimes - there are some notes that it's absolutely necessary to use it to play the correct note, but there are a lot of "optional" notes where he doesn't use it. Not necessarily wrong - the notes will still sound the same, but have a slight tone difference - most people won't notice - especially in a setting like a rock band. But some classical flute players will absolutely hound students for not using the RH pinky for 90% of the notes. It's usually a tell of someone who was classically trained vs. someone more self taught. Not a bad thing, but as someone with experience on both sides, I point it out for info purposed as someone who might not know.

Fun reaction! I haven't read the 2k (!) comments, but if it didn't come up somewhere in the comments, Ian isn'tsuing the pinky on his right hand because it was injured at some point and he can't straighten it out.

one of my favourite jethro tull pieces....I feel it was inspired by Bach- who is Ian Andersons interests.

I'm fairly certain he says it's a bamboo flute. The song is about religion being altered over time (the roots of the message has spread the altered branches), and how people get into arguments and even wars over it ("Crusades and creeds descend like fiery flakes of snow").

You basically talked all through the song. That might be gratifying to you to show off your expertise, but it doesn't do the song any favors and ruins the listener's experience. totally!
@RossoCarneАй бұрын
Wow where to start... (1) She posts a full listen thru for channel members. If that's so important to you, please join the channel. And if you aren't willing to do that, then it just shows you're just here to harass her and not because you actually care about the "listening experience". (2) This is an analysis. If you are watching an analysis video you should expect an analysis. If you just want to hear the song, listen to the song. It's literally linked. (3) Bro why do you have to bring this awful energy. Katie is a professional, she's an experienced musician and no one is more qualified to talk on things like this than her. You could learn something if you just took the time to listen instead of coming in and harassing her like this Do better

I always link the original song so if my expertise is ruining your enjoyment of the music, you can go and watch the music without any commentary! Thanks for watching!

Ian started as a guitar player. when he saw Jimi Hendrix, he realized, like most mortals, he could never be as good as him; heartbroken he traded his guitar for a flute, because why not! The man is a genius! He has taken time in the last few years to learn how to actually play the flute, decades after he inspired many young people to learn the instrument.
