This is something I have been looking for. I downloaded the report from Github. however from the Git hub and your KZbin video doesn't provide enough Information about how to build this from Scratch. is there a video of the tutorial for this kind of report building?

Hello, your video is amazing. I'm new to this field and I've only recently been exposed to PowerBI. I downloaded the dataset in bak file format (ContosoRetailDW.bak) and loaded it into SQL server, but I don't know how to get tables like yours to load into PowerBI. Can you give me a little more detailed instructions?
@poweraegg3 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you ☺️. Yes of course, you can connect to your SQL server using the Power BI query connector. You have to add your server name, and DB name to point Power BI to the tables and views. You can then select your tables, or write an SQL syntax query in the advanced query settings. Good that helps!

This is a good technique. By the way, I downloaded the pbix file and tried adding a date filter (i.e., Year) from the Date table. I was expecting that the date slicer will filter the visual but it is not working at all, perhaps the relationship is inactive from date table going to the dimension tables. I tried making the relationship between date table to the dimension, but I got an error saying, "There are ambiguous paths...". How do you solve this problem?
@poweraegg4 ай бұрын
Thanks! Date table is used to only filter the fact tables. It can filter dimensions perhaps through the fact tables via the bridge table. If you need the date table to filter a dimension table, it would probably require a different model. A possible way is to make sure the direction of the relationships from date table to fact to bridge to dimension table allows it to be filtered.

Nice video, need your help I am getting error whole loading data from Oracle EDW to lakehouse only with fact table . Do you have any idea or material resources please?
@poweraegg8 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you very much. Fabric is sitting ontop of Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, so it could be possible I suppose using Azure resources as an intermediary. Here is a link of the architecture interconnecting Oracle environment with Azure environment: docs.oracle.com/en/solutions/multicloud-data-analytics-pipeline-azure/#GUID-C8014C3B-1826-49AC-AA6E-40EF46A19AE9 However for Fabric, probably the easiest way could be to create an enterprise gateway. You would have to install it on a VM (virtual machine), install the oracle driver and establish a connection, and access it via a data pipeline in fabric - www.oracle.com/database/technologies/odac-downloads.html But you would need the correct access from your admin to do that. I also found this post in the community thagt could help you a bit: community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Desktop/Need-to-load-data-from-oracle-and-import-into-fabric-data/td-p/3401979 Best of luck :)

Great video! I think the most important and difficult part is the bridge table. Just a question I'm still struggling with, why din't you do a full outer join between "Bridge Table" and "Invoice_Details Bridge Base" using OrderID field?
@poweraegg10 ай бұрын
Thanks! I think I did a union to because I needed to incorporate the changing ownership of the record. Which means I would have the order detail joined with header order fact table, and the same with the invoice tables, and then created a union between the two, allowing for the owner dimension to be able to filter for orders and invoices, but include related records that have a different owner. I don't think I had order ID in the invoice details tables, this was mainly an attempt to connect fact tables in a sales process where the ownership changes, yet still incorporate RLS.

I love the solution, thank you for the great explanation. I arrived to your video from another problem: I only have 3 currencies (EUR, USD and CHF) but I have monthly exchange rates going back several years so I need to dynamically calculate the values based on when the revenue happened. Then, when I do MTD/QTD/YTD the measures should correcly show the amount in EUR. Lastly, I may need to show everything in USD but I guess if I figure out the whole thing in EUR then doing it for USD should be fairly easy.
@poweraegg11 ай бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. It sounds like you need historic currency exchange rates, related to historic transactions. And then you can make the aggregations. I usually tackle such problems step by step. First define a base currency to exchange everything using a lookup table, and then create a new table with the base currency and you can go from there.
@mnedix11 ай бұрын
@@poweraegg thanks for the hint, I was thinking of something very basic along the line of "if the transaction is in USD then look at the transaction date, get the exchange rate from that month and convert the amount" ... and nest all of the above in a SWITCH function

What if the fact tables are connected to the bridge table via unique dim keys per table? In other words, if there isn't a shared primary key in the bridge table, is it possible to link the fact tables via the unique dimkeys of the bridge table? This question is specific to enterprise environments connected via Live Connection without access to Power Query?
@poweraegg Жыл бұрын
Create a union between detail tables and then from that create a bridge table to incorporate all the detail keys

Excellent! If you create a Filed Parameter Table for the highest hierarchy, e.g. Country, and then create a new field parameter table for e.g. Store, and a new field parameter table for e.g. Product, and then add the columns "Country", "Store", "Product" in each of the Filed Parameter Tables, you can create One to Many links between them and probably solve the problem of a lower hierarchy selection affecting the higher hierarchy, since the propagation is One to Many.
