Thank you for all your videos and shorts of Asher! I do not show dogs, but my first Labrador was a son of champions. One of his testes never dropped which is why my grandfather gave him to my six WEEK-old son 39 years ago (when his father, a Naval Officer was at sea). Anyway, I have been reading a long mystery series based on a woman who shows standard poodles and is an amateur sleuth. Her aunt and uncle have a well known and respected line of black standard poodles. The first nook in the series involved the death of the uncle and the disappearance of the prize champion and stud dog from the kennel. Every book involves the showing of dogs and speaks about dog shows in New England and the New York area. I have viewed your videos to get some inkling of what the author is writing about. She was a breeder and handle of white standard poodles. Thanks again for helping me put reality to my imagination.

What do you think the angle is from the ear you pointed out? It was hard to see

I don't know that there is a specific angle, you just want the ear to be able to sit in place and not have spray up hair in the way of where it sits.

It is so hard to spend so much time growing out the poodle hair, taking care of it daily, hours of grooming and showing then to hang the show coat up and shave it all off! I know from experience and can sympathize with your hesitancy at the beginning of your video…that first cut is the most heartbreaking cut! People don’t understand, they look at it as ‘it’s a lot of coat’, ‘it’s cruel to show dogs’, ‘it’s just hair’ but that’s their nieveity…well done for following through with the cut @asher_the_show_spoo xxxx

An hour wet in a crate, would you not just use water magnet towels then HV 80% and continue with the stand he's be dry in an hour, then you can bomb through to ensure no tangles :) if you put a padded bed under the towel on the table it's a lot more comfy and absorbs dripping water

How you tought your dog to lean forward. my barely nine month old poodle is doing everything you said in this video, she is pasing, and she tends to put her paws facing not straigt but more to the outside. we are pacticing every day next to the mirror she is anatomically very beautiful. but im stugling to show her how to stand correclt how to make her lean forward.

youre out here doing the lords work! thank you for this! my spoo doesnt like to put his legs back down after i move them. its been frustrating. idk what to do about it. he also likes to sit down as soon as i touch his tail. my coach just has me scoop his stomach up every time he tries to do that.
@asher_the_show_spoo2716

You can use your dog’s head to help encourage them to place their feet back down. If you lift the left foot when you want him to put it back down push his head a bit to the left to ‘weight’ that side of the body. (Don’t just turn the nose but keep the head facing straight forward but push the whole head so the neck and then the body will shift that way) For the sitting you could try to stack while having a knee or an object under his stomach so he is unable to sit. You want to break the habit of the sit first. Also play and let the tail when you’re not working on stacking so he gets used to his tail being touched and considers it more positive.

How long is it advisable to leave the dog on top of the stacking Box?
@asher_the_show_spoo2716
@asher_the_show_spoo2716 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t spend long on there. It might be a 3-5 mins training session but not just standing on it. I’d toss a treat for the dog to run off and get, then have the dog come back and get himself onto the box. Do some free baiting or move in to a hand stack position and adjusting anything that needs fixing. Toss a treat for the dog to go get, etc.

There is something bizarre about the lengths people will go to make showing Poodles more difficult than it has to be. The idea of conformation shows is supposed to be to evaluate potential breeding stock -- but with Poodles it's turned out to be evaluating which people are more willing to spend more time and energy on hair dressing. There are worse things on earth... but still.
@asher_the_show_spoo2716

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea to keep big hair, but there are a lot worse things about conformation showing in regards to politics, hiding health and temperament issues, drama, etc. I honestly don’t care to breed my dogs. I simply show for fun. I love the look of a full continental but I’ve also showed in a tight modified.
