Oh, those are the WY Commandos. Veterans retired from both the 3 Worlds Empire and the United Americas that have signed a contract with the WY. They usually are deployed to "catch" xenomorphs, and from here their nickname of "dog catchers". Technically speaking these Commandos are not the usual mercs employed by the WY, but rather a small but elite paramilitary unit that is separate from the rest of WY security. They are better trained and equipped and theorically they can stand their ground against Xenomorphs almost like the USCM... But, of course, they have no access to all the toys of USCM, spaceships, tanks, fighters etc... Their assets and numbers are more limited. During the Alien timeline they show up different times, like in Alien 3, Alien Colonial Marines, Alien Fireteam Elite, etc. It's really a shame that up to this day we had no chance to play or at least see stories about the Commandos. After all, they are the first ones to see things going bad when it comes to Xenomorphs. Mostly thanks to Company's policies... 😑

So how do the combat androids factor in? I remember in AVP 2010 video game Weyland used combat androids as security and even to catch specimen 6. I always thought using a robotic security force for aliens was smarter as it limited the factor of impregnating and also say they were tougher force for both the aliens and even the predator to fight. Aliens fireteam elite also had combat androids but different variants. Like heavy, assault etc. If I’m remembering correctly I’m pretty sure combat androids were illegal or something for a time but I mean when it comes to Weyland Yutani everything they do is illegal.

Of course the WY in its shadow operations don't respect such rules and deploy specific synthetics with a range of gear and weaponry that can vary from mission to mission to carry out specific missions. Theres droids are shown in a video/comic where one of them, the leader of the unit, went rampant and decide to pursue the goal of saving mankind from Xenomorphs despite corporate orders to retreive samples of the creatures.
