I am a direct descendant to Destrehan. He is my 7th great grandfather, along with Marie Genevieve and their daughter Catalina being my 6th great-grandmother. My daughter is the next generation, and I have grandchildren. I just found this out. Thank you for your video! We are making plans to visit very soon.

Man, I am just like a kid ( I am 72 years old) about Christmas. There are many places that get into decorating for the holidays but New Orleans does it with a certain flavor it can call its own. Christmas dinner growing up in New Orleans was a spectacle of smells, sights and tastes. Roast turkey, pork roast and baked ham. Candied sweet potatoes with brown sugar and chopped pecans, green beans with onion and bacon and other delicious side dishes. But my favorite was by far….. oyster dressing and dirty rice!!!!! I am drooling thinking about how great the house would smell. New Orleans “puts on a show” about everything but it does it for Christmas with a flavor that can only be found there. Love dat city!!!!!!! Thanks for the great memories of home.

I’m 72 years old and I was raised in New Orleans in the housing project on St. Thomas. I had the opportunity to go to a lot of Mardi Gras parties and parades both as a kid and later on as a teenager. The Mardi Gras has to be experienced period. I personally love it. I joined the Marine Corps in 1970 and served for 30 years and didn’t have a lot of time to get home. I’m retired now and I miss eating EVERYTHING!!!! Fried oyster po’boys, gumbo, jambalaya, boiled crab, crawfish and shrimp are just a few of my favorites. I can cook a lot of these dishes. I love them. I was heartbroken when Katrina struck and destroyed so much of the city. I loved the music too. Not able to travel but I sure miss New Orleans.😢

Been here all my life also. I definitely understand how hard it is to watch a home you love and wishing you could come back one day. If it’s anything we can do to do bring you some of that Nola Magic to you please let me know. New Orleans is one special city and we are family no matter who we are! They still test rockets there. We can feel it here in Diamondhead. It shakes the house. They also do space camp for the kids during the summer months.
