i remember messing with it on the school computer, Windows 95 and seeing the waveform was really cool since I had never seen sound as a wave before.

Testing the "skip protection" was amazing. Nostalgia overload. Love the production and editing style - you are killing it!

The skip protection actually worked pretty well (until I did an unplanned “drop test”… then it didn’t work so well) 😆

You can change the sound quality before recording in the application settings. The Wav file will be larger (and shorter - it depends on the size of the memory), but if you have enough memory, it will work perfectly. The only thing you can't do is remove interference when transmitting the signal from the microphone.

My vehicle to the world of computer audio was a freeware DOS -program Advanced Digiplayer 3.0. It came out in 1991 and had features like trim, mix paste, effects, filters, amplitude adjustment and many I never even used. In Windows 3.11 I used Goldwave. But yeah, Sound Recorder was a handy program and because it came preinstalled you could always count on it to record something no matter whose computer you were using. And it recorded in a standard audio format.

Hey man have you ever played an FMV game that was about hunting or avoiding dinosaurs?
@piroshi3rd7 сағат бұрын
This is so weird! I know I played this game but it had talking animated characters instead. Maybe it was a sequel? I remember writing the absolute worst most nonsensical sitcom stuff in it, maybe it was like a "Movie/TV" version of the game instead of a still image story book for aesthetics? Side note, the version of the game I played had a whispering TTS voice option in it that I never heard again until years later playing No More Heroes on the Wii. Suda51 absolutely loves incorporating that specific TTS in almost all of his games even long after it's considered outdated.

My first mp3 player I think was a Phillips?? It was cylindrical shaped and silver and balck with a blue blacklight. It had a 256 MB storage (didn't take SD cards) and the first thing I loaded onto it was Chuck by Sum 41. By the way, I still load mp3 files onto my phone, I don't really use streaming, I don't have the proper amount of data plan for it and many things that I listen to are not even available anywhere online.

I used Windows Sound Recorder to record hours and hours worth of music between about 1998 and 2004 before I finally switched to Audacity Windows Sound Recorder audio definitely has a distinct character: the slow, fast and reversed audio are all iconic

Holy shit yes, my sister made all sorts of demonic hilarious content in this program. Warcraft 2 sounds were easily replaced with whatever abomination you had recorded in this program. Same for Worms Armageddon. Both had extra programs of their own to encourage such behavior. We did this with a girly horse game my sister had and she was furious and sad because she thought it was permanent. Once we showed her the mechanics though, she was all over it and all the 15 second cheery soundbytes of the game's protagonist were replaced by her absolutely outrageous stand-up comedy pieces of 120 seconds describing how you should clean up the stables floors and dump the "contents" in the neighbours' mailboxes as a belated birthday present. All of course with a modified voice which had to be done in CoolEdit Pro because by this time she had advanced to such a level that she needed Pro software to do her 9-year old comedy content. All us brothers were in stitches from her hilarities and we still quote her to this day, twenty-two years later. Shit was hilarious. Thanks for letting Sound Recorder have a bit of time in the spotlight again.

God damn talk about a flashback, my brother and I made so many dumb songs with Sound Recorder back in the day and like many others in the comments it’s one of the reasons I got into audio production. Great video!

Fun Fact: here in Mexico these types of MP3 CDs are still produced although, it has been a long time since the evolution of using a USB Flash Drives and having MP3 files. These are known here in the flea markets and sold with 1000 or more songs with different generes. Another fact: the songs have a very poor quality, using a very compressed file up to 64kbps at most 128kbps :p

I had a Diamond Rio PMP300, with an insane 32MB of space. I ordered it in 1998 from China - after seeing an ad in a PC magazine somewhere... As I had an ADSL connection in the place I was working, it ended up being quicker to download the files from Napster/Kazaa than it was to encode them! When I left to work as a DJ, I went from CD audio to MP3 for my playback sources. I didn't know about Suzanne Vega!

This is exactly how I learned with myself how to create and edit songs and other sound recordings. Between this simple program, and iTunes 4.8 program off of free AOL CDs we used to get back then, I started converting recordings to MP3 files with no Internet, and other tricks a lot like this stuff here with Windows 2000 pro. Lol Nice video.
