Having grown up with many producers in the Yellow Collar industry (Media, Arts, and Entertainment) here in Greater Boston who helped develop my knowledge and talent on PC as early as March of I999 (I was only 03 and change back then, but understood the specifics right away), it is nice to witness certain pieces of software that we ultimately didn't get to work with due to cost and availability factors; Massachusetts' local affiliate stations for plentiful major networks (WGBH (PBS, 02), CBS 04, WCVB (ABC, 05), WHDH 07 (then~NBC), WFXT (Fox 025), WSBK (UPN 038), WGBX (PBS, 044), WLVI (WB 056), and PAX 068) helped me learn a lot in Post~Production (especially on the Station ID front; you'd be surprised to know how much Live Action filming was fused with Renderman and also applications that were long exclusive to many a Silicon Graphics Workstation) but it took north of 022 Years worth of hardware advancements for me to be able to finally produce at the same level as the Professional tier of then, the amount of software that I had gotten a hold of Second Hand due to having so many friends and family who have been producing for about as long as me (almost 026 Years now) or had their creative upbringing in the '60s to '80s with the hardware and software of the time is virtually bottomless in their impact but compared to most Modern Era resources those older options do not translate well on current Operating Systems that most of what they grew up with had to be shelved or retired simply because Coding, File Format, and Codec Compatibility became the core trouble that arose for what many would render Masterpieces of the Old Standard. What is fortunate though in Retrospective Review of products such as Pinnacle Studio Plus XI and MAGIX Music & Movie Maker: Generation 06 is that the lot of creative elements that could be produced between I96I and 2006 can easily be replicated today in Vegas Pro, combined with VirtualDJ Pro 07, FL Studio XII or XXI, WIDI (Version 04.50), Topaz Labs' AI Suite (Gigapixel, Mask, and Video Enhance), Hit 'n Mix's RipX (Version 07 or better), and more for a Broadcast Grade impact, the older pieces of software were essential towards optimizing what many of those companies (Sonic Foundry, Sony, MAGIX, Atomix, Image Line, Topaz, and so on) would deliver to us down the road and fate knows that they still have their place to retain a certain sense of that era's history in every subsequent one that has followed; back in Quarter III and IV of 2024, I took the time to present the lot of these older editing tactics in many a Station ID and Title Card concept for plentiful friends, colleagues, media interests, and major First Party projects of our in progress, it has been genuinely welcoming to modernize these decades~old templates for today's audiences and wishfully what we have mastered in the MAGIX Era of Vegas Pro will be put to good use as our works mature and come to the airwaves on a grander scale. Man, I still use this today, Creation of "Glitchy Audio", and Creation of new sounds. Rename ANY file to .wav and instead of an error saying it won't work, sound recorder forces through the data and interrupts it audio, and plays it as is. so draw a picture in paint with colors and shapes, or just draw something, it will make it into the sound. This works best in Windows 95 and similar vintage systems. Modern sound editors may block or fail to interpret raw binary files. Ensure you’re working with a copy of the file; renaming system files or critical documents could result in accidental loss or damage. Loading non-standard files could cause Sound Recorder to freeze or crash, especially if the file is too large. example.jpg → example.wav Open the renamed file in Sound Recorder. If it successfully loads, it will treat the file's binary data as audio. Experiment with speed changes, reversing, or mixing with other files to create more unique sounds. Certain types of binary files, like compressed archives or structured text files, sometimes produced rhythmic patterns due to repeating data structures and some Pioneers of experimental electronic music occasionally used file-type exploits to generate raw material for compositions.

My first PC I built in 2003 had a 120GB Hdd. I used Sonic Foundry Vegas for recording music, but I didn't have a decent mic or any kind of audio interface, so I used a very crappy mic on my monitor and also plugged the headphone out 3.5mm from my digitech RP100 directly into the soundcard's line in. Didn't have a video camera, so I didn't film or do any editing.

Actually the tools then, worked! Ain't even half as bad as you make it to be :) Sure stylistically and so it might not be up to par, but that is more due to the constraints in editing knowledge, access to - and gear quality. Knowledge of what works and not has also been much much more streamlined over time. Great viddy this! :)

I like the 5.25" floppy disks better. Funny that in English also the 3.5" disk is called "floppy", although it is rigid (externally). In my native language only the 5.25" is floppy, the 3.5" is called a rusk (if directly translated).

How have you been coping with a computer without firewire??? All 3 of my desktop PCs in use have firewire cards, and one has even one additional one on the motherboard. Of my 3 PC laptops only one has firewire, which is sad. My studio audio interfaces (RME Fireface and Motu 828mk3) use firewire and I use them almost daily.

BTW Vegas Pro video editor is able to capture and record DV and HDV from/to firewire devices, like tape or analog to/from DV video converters. At least my version, I haven't updated it for a couple of years.

My FIRST MP3 player was my 2nd phone. I found out you could put a small amount of MP3s on it and my mom loaded up some Nickleback and Fall Out Boy on there for me 😂 and of course the songs were titled like “grand_theft_autumn.mp3”. My next music player was my big sister’s hand-me-down 2nd generation iPod Nano when she got a new one. That was when I started learning about iTunes and torrenting music, and since I was in control of my own music library I was very particular about making sure it all looked nice and tidy. Proper names, capital letters, no underscores, and the highest quality album art I could find. I think at that point I spent more music curating my library than I did listening to it haha

Used a free version of this when first using it. I hacked the free version to use my own samples . Originally it could only use the (limit) samples that it came with (It was a house music version), but it had effects on it (vcoder, etc). I got the program with a "school agenda" (I don't know if this is a right word in English, in my language it was called "school agenda". You needed this for school to put in when you had a test and what homework you needed to make and when, etc). But if I remember correctly that was in the 90s, I think it was 1995. I remember that years later Magix Music Maker came out and I was like "wow this is exactly like that software I had years back" . I even got some songs I made with it aired on some radiostations. I was still a child and didn't even know it was "illegal" to mod software. I modded software all the time since I was a young child (way before I was 10 years old, started with a Commodore with tapedeck).

I used it in windows 3.0 /3.1 / 3.11 and Win95 maybe on Win98 but can't remember. With friends we played with it also, sometimes for hours! But also just analog on a tape (casette). LoL. In the XP era I didn't use it anymore, but I used other software to record. TBH I didn't use XP at home, I always used windows 2000 (NT based). Did use Windows XP in school, but I never liked XP.
