Paranoia. They are afraid something is going to happen. Like the people who act aggressive when someone approaches them.
@BigMeechEJ252 ай бұрын
I have no idea why people do this and it drives me nuts to no end. I feel like some people are oblivious to their speed and subconsciously just keep pace with traffic around them. On the other side of the spectrum, especially here in NJ, most people I feel like get mad and act like its a dick measuring contest. Like who cares. That and people riding in the left lane and not moving over is my biggest pet peeves with driving haha.
@DosntMatter6662 ай бұрын
All I see is someone speeding to try and pass someone who is speeding. Maybe slow down? Literally nothing in the world you're doing is worth speeding for. Use your brain and not your emotions on the road.

Happens here in the UK as well, there must be some psychology behind it.

Two possibilities : he was texting, but an other clue should have been seeing him wawing at list a little or he was looking at / searching for an address in the nearby estate 😀 Nontheless, it always astounds me that in a so called "free country", people should not have the freedom of speed as long as they respect the upper limitations. If people cannot drive at their own speed, there is no need to build 4 lanes roads...

It's their racing instink. They just don't wanna b passed. They also don't realize that approching a vehicle from the rear, air pressure builds up between the vehicles, and the vehicle in frunt is being PUSHED. I reduce my speed by 2 mph just to let them by, esp the big riggs. faster and eayser.
@-sturmfalke-2 ай бұрын
While the air pushing thing is not the case, the air "pulling" is. Behind an fast moving object there is a low-pressure zone, which pulls it back. But if another object is within this low-pressure zone, it gets pulled forward. That's why the team cars on bicycle races sometimes drive closely infront of their racer, because it saves them energy. It is also the reason why you have to hold a distance to a fastmoving train, it could pull you onto the tracks or even under the carriages.
@MrSunrise-2 ай бұрын
What is going on is that when they aren't looking at the speedometer, they set their speed according to the surrounding traffic. At some point they look at their speedo and realize that they are going faster than they intended and back off. My wife does this - we're trying to break her of the habit. It's not to annoy you, it's just the best they can do (which is kind of scary.)

Glad it’s not just the UK. This tends not to happen across mainland Europe. It’s definitely a mindset thing. Men & women. Very dangerous on single roads. And mind blowing when a bike overtakes a car and the car speeds up - what on earth do they think will happen.

I mean, the actual answer is that you value maintaining a constant highway speed and he doesn't but that isn't what you want to hear.
@MrSunrise-2 ай бұрын
Yes, that is part of it. However, I see maintaining a constant speed as a public good, and letting one's speed float for no reason as a defiling of the commons. Of course, this is America, where freedom includes the freedom to be an a-hole, which some Americans insist on exercising on a regular basis - YMMV.

It is absolutely insane how many people do this... and when you look over they usually look as dumb as they drive. Funnily they drive all kind of cars, from small 2 seater city cars to directives SUV's.
