Звук отличный. Помню свою молодость. Отъездил на Кенворт С500 с двигателем DD 8-92 целых 8 лет. Отличный двигатель. Без проблем. Но весь в масле. Потом поменяли на DD 60. Но это уже другая история

My 1st Pete was a '75 359 with an OO92 I ordered new to haul milk in Florida for Milk Express. It was a twin stick Spicer 4x4 with 3.70 gears with a single bunk 36 inch sleeper. Joe Vitavicchi got me the job and my dad got me the loan for the truck. I doubled up my payments and had it paid off in 30 months. What I didn't know was the finance company (Farm Credit) loaned me my dads money and put my payments into escrow and they gave it back to him in a lump sum. Once the Detroit needed a major overhaul I replaced it with a 400 Cummins which had about the same torque and a whole lot less noise and better fuel economy. I had that truck for 20 years and I wish I never sold it, she was a good one for sure.

Absolutely amazing sounding truck and I just now subscribed to your channel. Will you please see if we can do a three or four hour ASMR video of this thing but with a really really high rpm up shifting and include engine start up I love that plus the jet break is just icing on top of the cake. Stay safe man have a great one. I hope all is well with you.

you made enough noise i thought for a minute that this elk was a pet that was tied up on a leash....then when you were 'closing the gap' i thought you were going to start a lawnmower and kill it with that...i've used more strategy going up to the meat section at Cosco

Please make more cold starts of this from inside. Would love to see what you do with the throttle on a super long crank.
@canuckoutdoors34936 жыл бұрын
Gearhead if a mechanical engine has been sitting a while you usually have to tap the throttle for it to fire. That way you can get everything lubed up before its under any load
@gearhead99436 жыл бұрын
Canuck Outdoors would love to see more about this. My N14 is a bitch to start and needs lots of throttle - basically curious if that’s normal. Could you make a startup video from inside like this?
@JG-us1fy6 жыл бұрын
Gearhead ive driven a couple N14 never had one that wouldn’t start. The mechanicals ive driven just require a pop of the throttle or maybe held at about 1000 rpm position if its super cold

At fire department I'm at our pumper has a 500 horse single turbo 8v92ta with an automatic transmission and it halls ass. I love the power and reliability of of the engine. The Jake screams and the turbo sounds amazing. 500 horse is plenty off a single turbo, twin turbo would have 550 to 1000 horse. I went to school for diesel for five years and I loved working on 71 series and 53 series Detroits how ever the 92 s are amazing and reliable. I do fancy myself a 60/12.7 or 60/14 liter but you can't go wrong with a new OM71 DD13. Cat C15 compound turbo 550/600 is a good engine as well but you can't get them anymore unless it is used same as the 60

@balla according to Depco standard engine specifications, a detroit diesel 12v71 makes 475 horsepower in naturally aspirated form, and 550 horsepower in turbocharged form. an 8v92, however, makes only 370 horsepower naturally aspirated, and 430 horsepower turbocharged. the 8v92, however, is over 700 pounds lighter than the 12v71. i wouldn't trust the power ratings much though, as you can find many 500hp 8v92s, and some 700+hp 8v92s, primarily in marine applications. the 92 series was a replacement for the 71 series, so you can likely see many gains in the economy and reliability of a 92 from a 71. however, i'm just a kid who researches old diesels. i have no real hands-on knowledge of these things.

Today there is the Lion - Latest Scania V-8 (16 liter) 730hp (1990 lb/tq) @ 1900 rpms and 2685 lb/tq @ 1300 rpm. (487hp @ 1000 rpms)...unreal ! I hope someday you get to drive a truck with an 8v92 in it - its a joy.

+Cobalt “Robert” Lukather - 1989 @ 18, my first learning experiences for driving a diesel dumptruck - 72 Autocar setback w/318(8v71), then 19yrs old on a 78 Transtar 4300 w/a red 435 8v92. 1996, drove two 84 GMC generals (silver 6v92, 350hp, silver 8v92, 430hp) 1993~2000, 72 Ford 9000 w/silver 6v92, 350hp & a 86 Freightliner FLD setback w/a Silver 892 475hp. 1981 KW w90a w/a 445 8v92. Never owned them, just drove them for two of my best friends.
@cobaltlukather90459 жыл бұрын
sounds very cool. what were they like long distance? what were they like when you were just cruising easy and when you were pushing them hard?
@iBackshift9 жыл бұрын
+Cobalt “Robert” Lukather - Only the 72 ford w/3 axle dump trailer (gvw 107,000) and 86 FLD 5 axle dump trailer (gvw 139,500) were long distance (20 hour round trip) I hauled aggregate. The rest were all local tri axle dumptrucks (tandem w/air lifts) The 350 was slow in the hills, 15 spd and down in 3rd just to try to hold 1800. The 475 did alright, 18 spd 4th high - look up "cavers hill nipigon" With the 475 it would take about 7~8 minutes on the rug @ 1800 to climb 660' to 1100' elevation before shifting 1/2 a gear. The weird thing is out on a flat passing lane, (475 x 892) I could pull out and pass a log hauling truck with similar weight running a 450 DDEC w/18 spd. In that hill my buddy Billy would go by me a gear higher. Dint matter if I ran that 475 at 1800 or 2350 in the hill, still pulled about the same, just different gear. Out on the flat is where the engine speed took over it seemed. I would flip the cruise control in that hill, then get out my windex bottle and clean the windows and the dash, mebbe have a sandwich and a coffee. Its just straight up with a curve at the top i could steer with my knee.
