Dang, son! What a way to cap off a Jamuary! Feeling bummed I couldn't participate but happy to see folks clock in the effort.

That's a sick beat. Proper liquid jungle 🔥 ✨ i saw you have the kaosillator mini, do you send midi or just audio with the unit? all the best mate! ⬆⬆⬆
@Medniex3 күн бұрын
Thanks! I'm not that familiar with subgenres from that branch so I just went with a vibe I've experienced. Kaossilator 2 does not have any sync abilities besides the tap tempo function so it's all synced by ear. However Kaossilator pro from the same generation has a proper midi in/out, but it lacks other features

Awesome disco!! 😄(I usually only hop Through one device when I daisy chain MIDI for what it's worth.)
@Medniex8 күн бұрын
Same here! Also I was not quite specific. The 4th device in the row of synced devices was connected via sync click cable since there's no other way how to pass that further from volca. I guess I need a midi through box as my next gear in the line of my wishlist
@HazeAnderson8 күн бұрын
@@Medniex I built my own for about $15. If you got the money I highly recommend the RK-004 or RK-006 by Retrokits. Conductive Labs also makes the MRCC and MRCC 880. The MRCC would be a hub for life. Cheers! One more day!! 😆

Cool jam! Just curious: When you work like this, in terms of mixing, do you set up everything before the recording, so compressors and dynamic eq make sure that you stay within boundaries and don't get freq buildups, etc.? Or do you record multiple tracks and mix the project after the performance?
@Medniex8 күн бұрын
It is quite a quick and rough process. Plain stereo straight from a mixer. I just pre-jam while I'm coming up with phrases and sequences and then I get the idea about levels for each instrument. I'm also doing a master level check with all the instruments playing something at the same time (even they never do it in the final jam) so I'm sure I'm not in the reds and then I apply a quick izotope assisted mastering on the recorded material 😁
@mountaine8 күн бұрын
@@Medniex That's interesting! You keep it sounding clean and tidy in these tracks - well done! I guess it goes to show... a well thought-out arrangement makes mixing a breeze 😀
@Medniex8 күн бұрын
haha, thanks! It gets messy sometimes and maybe it is just a luck and combination of chosen palette of instruments. For example, the pocket operator rhythm has a distinct crunchy metallic sound and it is quite spikey in upper frequencies. I wouldn't trust it to carry kick and snare but for interesting secondary drums, fills, effects and hi-hats it cuts through the mix easily. But in general the Jamuary content is the type I'm not too picky about the quality if it requires too much time because then it would be impossible to do it every day.

Cool jam Medniex! The Nightverb is paying itself off with the cool things it can do! Well done!
@Medniex9 күн бұрын
Thanks! This jam reminds me of tracks from my secret-not-so-secret second artist alias I did almost ten years ago. Regarding to Nightverb there's still uncovered areas I haven't tried it also it is meant to be quite hands-on unit. So far I'm quite shy on real-time tweaking 😄

Thanks! That's yamaha QY70 it plays general midi sounds and XG sounds. Most people used it exclusively as a midi sequencer for huge setups, but since nowadays there are more immediate ways to that (essential for jamming) I'm using Novation Circuit to both sequence parameters for Erica Synths Nightverb and playing QY70 built-in sounds

Cool! But which one is making the glock sound?
@Medniex11 күн бұрын
LOL, you're not talking about firearms 🤣Took me a second. That comes out of the Yamaha QY70, but it's sequenced by novation circuit. The circuit is used just as the sequencer this time because it is easier to program it.
@DiomedeGap11 күн бұрын
@@Medniex Ah, yes... hadn't spotted it there... I have a QY20 that I ended up using exclusively as a sequencer because I wasn't keen on the GM sounds, but I forget that there's a few good ones! Likewise, I've switched to using Circuit for most sequencing as it's so easy to program.
@Medniex11 күн бұрын
@@DiomedeGap GM sounds yes, but this one has XG sounds as well so it is a bit better and could be edited a little bit as well. Sometimes even the most cheesy sounds just fits right. For me sequencing the QY70 feels a bit tedious and I haven't developed muscle memory for it yet
