For me as flightsimmer: if i wanted to plan a flight from Seattle to dubai, it would usually tell that it does not require etops. Now I think that its not quite correct that over northern Canada and Greenland you would definitely go with etops cause there is barely anything suitable to fly to. Now what would happen irl in that case? Would I just look for any suitable alternate out of that big database of airports?
@CaptainNavАй бұрын
Hi... I can definitely confirm that for a flight ftom Seattle to Dubai (on a 777 I guess) you need ETOPS for the part of the flight over Northern Canada, the North Pole and the north of Russia. Once you are in the air, you would look for an airport decent enough to welcome your aircraft type and with good weather. There aren't a lot of these airports up there, so the choice is restricted and any diversion quite long.

@@CaptainNav thanks captain, can you teach me how to trim the aircraft. When I am descending the aircraft, I find I have to keep giving control inputs to maintain the glidepath for landing. Sometimes, it overshoots too
@CaptainNav5 ай бұрын
On the approach, for example an ILS approach, try to disengage the autopilot when the aircraft is ready ("configured") to land, with gear down, flaps 30, speed Vref+5. That way, when the autopilot is disengaged, the aircraft will be trimmed for the correct speed. In the PMDG simulation, there is an option to display the trim reference speed on the PFD. Have a look through options, show FBW or something like that. Then trim accordingly with the button you use to trim. Hope it helps!👍

Bonjour Captain! Have you uploaded a video of raw data take off, level accelerations clips and descents and especially steep turns? Can you explain what you mean by trimming for speed? How is it different from normal pitch trim? Please explain this with regards to fly by wire sensitivity.
@CaptainNav5 ай бұрын
Hi... no I haven't uploaded other "raw data" videos as it is not really something we do. On the B777, because it is a fly by wire aircraft, we trim for speed. This is the way it works, unlike conventional aircraft you trim for pitch to relieve pressure on the yoke. The simulation allows you to display where the trim speed is (not the real aircraft)
@MSA35685 ай бұрын
@@CaptainNav so the magenta triangle next to speed scale is the trimmed speed?
@CaptainNav5 ай бұрын
No the trim speed shows a blue FBW. I am not sure if it is on the video but on my more recent videos it is there. You can enable the FBW to display in the options.👍
@MSA35685 ай бұрын
@@CaptainNav merci beucoup! I learn't something new today. As it is FBW when executing a steep turn for 180/360 degrees (Airline ASSessments 😬🎯) you minimise control inputs after acquiring the right flight condition attitude with the slight increase in Pitch ~(3 deg) and increase of N1 ~5-8% and fly by wire will keep that attitude if bil turbukence or pilot oscillation...correct? I assume the FBW works similarly to Airbus but with no auto trim and no auto thrust but are protected from bank angke experience, over speed or app to stall and g- load prot?
@CaptainNav5 ай бұрын
The blue FBW is not in the real aircraft. For normal turns, indeed there is no need to pull the yoke. For steep turns you have to disconnect the PFC's and fly in direct mode. In that case you do have to increase the pitch a little bit and add some thrust.👍

Do you have any tutorials for setting flaps etc.? I'm unfamiliar with FMC and tablets as I normally like to just get in the cockpit and go! I can't lower my flaps and when I try and take off from (say) London Heathrow, I barely reach 150knts and run out of runway!!!!
@CaptainNav5 ай бұрын
To fly an aircraft like the 777, you need to become familiar with the FMC, etc... If you takeoff (with at least flap 5) and just make it airborne, you probably don't have enough power or you are way too heavy. I understand your desire to just fly, but you do need a minimum of a set up to get this bird up in the air. Have a look around the channel, hopefully you can find a useful video.

Just to make it a bit easier, you don’t need to look at the needle on the ND during this procedure as the scan would be too big. But instead if you look at the white needle down the LOC indication, it’s the top of the needle on the ND, so keep it between the (pink)heading bug for small correction 😊 Thank you for the video very useful !

Hi thanks for tuning in. You can definitely use the exit airport as an ETOPS alternate, it does not matter if the alternate is also the exit. If you go to an isolated airport, this will probably be the case. Your departure/destination airports can also be ETOPS alternates.

Hello captain. A few days ago, the B77W PMDG for MSFS2020 was released. I have a question about performing an RNAV approach. In the B737, you can use the APP button on the MCP and then the approach is performed automatically as FINAL APPROACH on the PFD. I tried to do it on the B77W, but firstly, when extending the flaps, the speed indicator on the left side of the PFD did not decrease as it does in the B737, for example. I had to do it manually using the knob on the MCP. Secondly, the FINAL APPROACH inscription on the PFD did not appear at all. Is it different in the B77W than in the B737? Is this a bug?
@CaptainNav6 ай бұрын
Hi... Unless there is a specific option (which I don't think exists) the way to fly a RNAV approach is with LNAV VNAV on the B77W.👍
@HolyOrangeJuice6 ай бұрын
I will also add that it is normal behavior in approach mode to have to manual select speed after a localizer and glide slope capture. RNAV you should not be using approach as it's a GPS approach and it uses LNAV/VNAV guidance.
