I am building up a stock 1988 and want to keep things as stock as possible. Do you know if there are Chromoly replacements for the stock split axles?

You say old school stuff, but this is a great visual of the CAD interior and is very helpful for my 94' YJ too. Thank you for passing down some knowledge.

Thanks for the video. What does the wire loom and plug do that are sticking out of the actuator? You pick it up at 2:50 into the video

My yj 2.5 ltr has 33s This winter i put it in 4 wheel drive on a hill and the front tires were not spinning . Only rear was . Than i put it on 2 L still nothing .so embarrasing . Can anyone help me why the front wont move . Seems like 4x4 does engages and gets me out of parking lot and when lots of snow on ground but struggles on hills . Is it the big tires ? But in snow it should be easier to spin i guess. My jeep even has lockers There is a red dial up knob incab . I bought the jeep like this all modified
@ArrowItArchery Жыл бұрын
The red knob is not a dial up. It's a pull knob that's cable driven to the shift fork. When you engage your 4wd on the floor, you pull the red knob outwards. It's a manual cable that moves the shift fork to lock the two axles together. The vacuum lines are void. If you trace the black line from the red knob, you'll see that it runs to the shift fork housing cover. It runs into the housing and is connected to the shift fork internally. You will notice that, behind the red knob is possibly a black dial. When you pull the red knob outwards, you can dial the black knob clockwise to tighten up on the rod and lock it in place from working back inwards. It's much better than relying on vacuum to move the fork. Manual activation, over electrical, button, or vacuum is always my choice. If you pull on the knob and it won't move, check the black dial behind it and make sure it isn't tightened down on the shaft. Rotate it counter clockwise to free up the red button to pull. The black dial is basically to keep the red knob/shaft from working back in when it's pulled out. You may not need to use the black dial when the red button is outwards. You will figure that out after you use it. If your red button walks in when it's activated as you are four wheeling, then you'll know to just use the black dial to lock it in place. 😁

So did you have to change the axle shaft oil seals to fit the TJ drive shafts?

If one of the vacuum lines is to turn on 4x4 light on dash then what is the harness plug for?
@e954rr24 жыл бұрын
Iv used this seal still leaks
@tstrenuous105 жыл бұрын
helpful. Thanks. I'm guessing one vacuum hose engages 4WD and the other vacuum hose pulls the motor out of 4WD and frees up the axle.

It also turns the 4WD light on the dashboard.

as a YJ owner (1993 Sahara) with a working vacuum setup, this helped me understand what I have and why my friends want me to swap in a post 1996 XJ axle.

I still use mine flawlessly. The shaft only engages if shifted into 4x4. So, I have found another remedy if the vacuum system failed. Taking the actuator apart you will see the "C" clips that hold the fork in place. Take the "C" clip off on the side that would slide the fork over to the side where the collar engages the shaft. Replace the "C" clip on the opposite side of the fork and this keeps the fork in the engaged position. Now you use your 4x4 shift as normal for off road.

I would like to know if the posi locker blocks the front wheels and does the function of a locked differential or what is the purpose there?
@yjsquarelights4 жыл бұрын
Good question. The posi lock does not lock the front differential. Only engages the passenger side axle shafts together.
@zxtuner4lyfe7 жыл бұрын
Hey what you pay for tj shafts at pick a part? Thanks
@yjsquarelights4 жыл бұрын
I think around $100
@bobczz39197 жыл бұрын
The only problem with a one piece is the differential and driveshaft will turn all the time. Not so bad if you have the 4.0L but if you have the 2.5l it robs a lot of power.
