My psychiatrist diagnosed me in 20 minutes, my life drastically changed for the better. Turns out being in a hypomanic state having a breakdown helped figure me out pretty quickly lol

I was diagnosed MDD and GAD FOR YEARS AND TREATED. I was given antidepressants which would help my depressive episodes but it exacerbated my mania. They kept telling me this will help my anxiety….nothing helped. Obviously due to the lovely people who ruin it for everyone I could never get actual anxiety medication. But there are antidepressants that supposedly treat both. Nothing worked. It took me having the worst manic episode of my life and almost sliding myself for them to sit me down and say you are bipolar. I was literally just diagnosed today. Hopefully after years of failing to treat “anxiety” this new mood stabilizer will help me not go high and low.

This is helpful, thank you! I am considering starting, but can only do 9 days back to back at this time and won’t be able to do it again for like the next month. If it can be picked back up whenever I’m ready and wouldn’t void the 9 days due to the lapse in time, that is good information to know!

I’m pretty sure I have bipolar 2 my doctor keeps trying me with new antidepressants they keep sending me into mania episodes then back down to depression. I’ve said this to my doctor I’ve been referred to a councillor. What steps should I take if I want people to take me serious for bipolar 2 in the uk they don’t seem to want to diagnose you with this.

You need to either change doctor as I did and definitely see a psychiatrist! I’m also in the U.K. and so many GP’s are clueless.

I didn't realize these were options. My psychiatrist took me off of it as my depression became much worse over the 1.5-2 month period of me being on it. Both he and my therapist describe my experience as "suffering" and my therapist had been checking in on me weekly and was increasingly worried. I nearly lost my job and position in grad school program. Fast forward 9 months and "bipolar" was brought up. 2 years on a mood stabilizer and I feel 100% happier. Is there a chance they recognized trying these things wouldn't work based on my symptoms before changing my meds?

My PHQ9 was 47. I’m almost done with the first trial treatment for depression AND pain and my score is still 47. Is there anything that you can recommend to help, please?

If they are testing the treatment for options of relieving pain symptoms of chronic pain diseases. The increase of power is so great that it can cause backlash symptoms such as higher pain, more fatigue and increased weakness. I know this is a guinea pig treatment and I opted to volunteer but, how do I know if it is causing more damage than help?

Is there any way to contact you with a personal question? I am being treated by dTMS for a possible trial of this treatment helping with chronic pain from Status Migrainosus and want to do my best for this trial but, I have questions that have not been answered and was hoping that you might help if you have a few extra minutes to help me. Please, if possible contact me and thank you for your help already!

If only my psychiatrists had done this step of figuring out how the diagnosis fits... I can't be sure, cause I'm not a licensed psychiatrist, just a patient, but I was given probably 15-20 medication and 10 years of therapy for depression, which was then by myself suspected of being bipolar, I failed every SSRI, SNRI, and Tricyclic treatment, even had some hypomania as a side effect from the medication (but only when medicating, not otherwise), guess what worked somewhat? An NDRI - bupropion. I think you can see where this is going... I had to quit it for other side effect reasons, but yeah basically I almost certainly have ADHD. Problem is them not realizing this is I was in a constant food addiction my entire childhood, I was always told I was smart and would achieve the best results with minimal effort, but even putting in that effort and planning was difficult, which contributed to depression, too. Then my pain worsened, had to get on painkillers, and as predictable as possible... yep, I got addicted to them. Well, pretty easy, right? Get off the opioid and do an ADHD investigation? Well, by now due to the obesity I had developed a neurological condition which is very rare which makes it basically not possible to take adhd medication? So now I'm supposed to motivate myself to get out of this addiction (and abstain from a painkiller which I genuinely hugely need for the pain) for what? No life? I tried taking vyvanse twice, when I used to do other drugs, tried 30mg and 60mg. Did it make me high? Not one bit, entirely dead calm, could stay still for the first time in this life. Yet here I am, for no good reason other than this godforsaken Swedish medical system failing me. Wanna know the truly hilarious thing about all this? The only doctor who understood my situation right away was an addiction psychiatrist, not a general one. It's simply cause my case is common, addiction is underrepresented by 500-1000% in people with ADHD. Yet so many general psychiatrists are so blind to this issue of undiagnosed ADHD. I'm only 23 but I'll probably be gone in a few years, just let this be a warning to anyone reading this who thinks ADHD is not a big deal, or doesn't affect adults. Look up the life expectancy of people with ADHD...

I spent longer than a year to taper off and I still have the head zaps which named the head jiggys. If I would of known from the Dr that prescribed them to me I NEVER would of taken them. They were prescribed to me in 2002 to help with migraines.
