So my question is, why would Jesus a jew, tell Peter a Jew, to start the Catholic church. Constantine a Roman Catholic started the Catholic religion, not Peter. Good evening Manuel, thank you for taking the time to post a thoughtful comment. I would like to address a couple of the points that you raised. I'd like to start with your referring to latin as a 'dead language'. Latin is the language of Christ's Church, and is therefore our language. Since we are Catholics first, and then South African, American, German, Spanish etc. latin is even more our language than our mother tongue. I would like to suggest that you watch our video, 'Why Latin at Mass?', this may give you a little more insight. With regards to the readings at Holy Mass: As you correctly pointed out, the Traditional Mass has two readings. One from the Epistles and one from the Gospels. The Epistle is to the Jews and the Gospel to the Gentiles. This is why the Gospel is said facing North, where the gentiles and barbarians traditionally lived. Candles are held during the Gospel to signify the light of Christ which gives light to the darkness of paganism. There is no special reading from the Old Testament as such, since we are now in the fullness of revelation. What was just a figure is done away with, while the reality takes it's place. This is why we do have some prophecies read during Holy Week, for example, since they are the prophecies foretelling the things we are about to celebrate. However, for the regular readings, why read what is imperfect, when we now have the fullness of revelation. I pray that the Holy Ghost will inspire and guide you to, in humility, seek the Truth above all things. God bless you.
