Hi James, you discovered my channel in recent days and left a message, now I’m returning the favour 😀 I decided to start at your first video, and when I have time, I’ll start working through them. What I like about this video is the way you took time to introduce yourself, what you aim to cover in your videos & some of your photography background. You also came across as comfortable, calm & clear talking to camera. A great start! Videoing my own photo trips recently has given me new found respect for others that do this. When I’m out shooting stills, I’m struggling to remember to take video to tell the story later, I get too carried away with the still shooting! It doesn’t end there though, you then have the whole editing side too. So I’m finding it’s a multi day affair putting these videos out. You go and shoot for a day, then edit your stills for a day, then rough the video cut for a day, then finish off the video edit. It’s time consuming! I’m really enjoying the video editing side, I’m trying new things out most video edits & I can see improvements, but still not where I want to get to in my minds eye, but enjoying the journey getting there. I’m using DaVinci Resolve as my video editor, how about you? So, while I have plenty of ideas on the video edit side, the bit I feel I’m struggling with more is the story telling. How to present my photo trips in ways that are interesting to others. This I have little clue on how to improve if I’m honest. I’m not sure what folk find more interesting, the locations I’m going to, the photography gear I’m using on the photo walk, or the photo settings/techniques/compositions. It’s odd, I’ve watched others KZbin photo vids for years, but not really thought and identified what I find entertaining about them, I need to analyse this myself, and see what I can do to improve the story telling. This is the aspect I feel most exposed on. How about you?
@oldcameragoodcamera2 күн бұрын
@@TheLDunn1 I totally agree with you on the struggles to remember to take video of certain photos. I try to remember that when we watch other people's videos we have no idea what their original idea for that video looked like, we only see the finished article so we mustn't judge ourselves too harshly there are probably a lot of videos out there that we enjoy but don't live up to the creators' original plans. Thank you so much for the positive comments about my presentation, it was my biggest worry when I started because I am definitely not your typical high energy, buzzy presenter. I think I'm slowly finding my way though, and lots of people have been so kind about my style of video making. I have mostly been using Final Cut to edit with, but my videos rarely use much more than basic cuts and cross disolves. In the new year I am definitely planning on expanding my video editing knowledge though! I am really enjoying watching other channels now with a bit of knowledge on how much effort videos take, I'm trying to learn from and share with as many video creators as I can. I see it as almost a virtual photography club, so if there is anything you see in my future videos you think I could improve on or expand on I welcome any kind constructive critique.
@TheLDunn12 күн бұрын
@ same here, re the feedback & constructive criticism. I’ve not used Final Cut, I have a little (basic) prior experience with Premiere, but have generally ditched Adobe now. Took a while for me to start with DaVinci Resolve (DR). When I first got DR every time I started to do something in it, I’d take an age to not get very far, then give up and do it in Premiere, must have done that at least 3 times. Eventually I broke through that initial learning barrier, & now I would not even contemplate doing anything in Premiere. DR you can download and use a pretty complete version for free. I’m truely surprised that they give this away for free because it’s an excellent piece of software, very polished, professional and fully featured. There is a ‘paid for’ version called DR Studio, which has a few more features, one of which I was keen on trying out, I also feel quite strongly about giving good companies some money if I find their free or trial products useful & good. So during the Black Friday sales, I looked into buying the studio version, which was on 20% off sale, but, before I hit the ‘buy’ button, I stumbled upon them doing a ‘speed edit’ console which comes bundled with DR Resolve for only £130 more, so I went for that. I’ve watched a few KZbin vids by DR processionals, and they taught me how to use the software ‘correctly’. Like most things, when you just jump in and dabble you develop bad habits, which I had done. Getting the Speed Editor forced me to learn how to use it, and DR properly, which I’m certainly starting to benefit from. Now I have the basics largely sorted, I’ve started adding layers of complexity onto the editing process, there’s a fair bit of experimentation still going on, and in some ways, I think I’ve gone backward, but it’s for a greater good hopefully as I am trying things out with the aim of improving. I decided to show all my unprocessed images & the processed images at the end of my video, instead of mid way through while I’m taking them. I’m still undecided if this is the right approach for me or not, there are pros & cons. I found with your first video,I wanted to see your processed shots all together at the end, but this might just be me, because it’s the way I like to do it, I don’t know.

Hi again, the fundamental element to any type of photography is light. Light is the connection between you and your camera. Understanding this connection is crucial to what you see through your eyes to the image your camera actually captures. The human eye and a modern digital camera sensor are completely different. But that's a subject for another day's discussion. This is the complexity of photography which fascinates me. Great discussion of the use of a wireless flash, which I'm going to explore. Many thanks Regards Rob.
@oldcameragoodcameraАй бұрын
Couldn't agree more, light is crucial! I think my biggest light bulb moment was realising with flash there is essentially two exposures happening at once - the ambient light and the flash, and you reduce either in favour of the other and find a nice balanced look. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on my video again! It's so appreciated!

I had Apature block failure on my K50 & K70 so I purchased my first used camera my Pentax K3-11 when the Pentax K3 Mark iii came out i waited a couple of years and bought a used one for the fast autofocus as i had begun photographing wildlife and I needed the faster autofocus. I replaced the Apature block on my Pentax K50 & K70 and have since loaned the cameras to my son good luck on me ever getting them back from my son but I am quite happy with the Pentax K3 cameras

@@scrptwic haha yeah good luck with the cameras you "loaned", although I am glad to hear your son is enjoying them so much! I loved the K30 so much I bought a used one with the aperture issue you described, fixed it and installed the K50 software on it to use the 55-300mm PLM lens on. Of all the brands I have tried this year I think the Pentax cameras have been the most well rounded and full featured cameras. They have a little bit of everything, don't they? I have not used a K3 but I can only assume they carry on those same attributes and then some! Hi james. Approximately 7 minutes into the video. The stone wall is an amazing piece of work. I think an image from the top of the wall on the right bottom corner will change the perspective because the fern growing against the wall and a different angle. I do like the idea of anything that can help train your eyes to frame things. The only thing they all suffer from is not being super exact to your lens/camera setup but its something you can build on over time. I think the first battle is understanding what in a scene caught your eye, and then building from there. It's all about constant and small improvements over time 😊
