Perhaps you have tried this but I have more success by sniping each and every single tip and defoliate once or twice a year. This really seems to stimulate Microcarpa to back bud. I find when I don't snip them it tends to only grow from the tips. I also have had less die back if I wire when the branch has foliage. I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing.
@TropicalBonsai25 күн бұрын
Thank you!. I probably should have mentioned it, sometimes I do but then end up editing part of it, but I am trying to develop the branches that are there really don't want much more back budding. Although, once this wire starts to bite I may cut all the growing tips off.

When does the RP grow branches and how can you tell between a branch or a leaf? Great looking tree
@TropicalBonsai25 күн бұрын
Thanks! For my trees in containers when you chop them they branch out. I planted the one in the ground and it has numerous. You can tell when they grow their own leaves.

My boyfriend got me a starter kit for Christmas, I planted my seeds in January. These are my first bonsai’s the royal poinciana has taken off. I still have it in regular potting soil with perlite. Do you think I should repot into better soil or wait for next spring? The trunk is not as thick as yours yet, and for some reason the bottom leaves turned yellow and fell off this last week. Looking for videos to help, tips and tricks! Thank you
@TropicalBonsai25 күн бұрын
I would wait until spring. This time of year it is common for the ones even here in florida to start a little yellowing.

I am also growing a jacaranda from seed. So far it's good and healthy. I haven't started doing anything with it yet. But I wanted to warn you that these are highly invasive trees. And you may not want to leave it grow in your yard for too very long
@TropicalBonsai2 ай бұрын
The plan right now is to leave it in a pot. I did check, they are invasive in parts of Australia and Africa but not here in Florida.

Nice video, love these trees, I've found the only way to get Aerial roots on a ficus is to let them grow really really vigorously until they have a huge dense canopy up top and/or keep them really humid like 80-90% humidity.
@TropicalBonsai2 ай бұрын
Thanks. I keep these outside all year long. Most of the year here in Florida we live in a humidity dome. Humidity and vigorous growth are the two biggest factors for aerial roots for sure.
