I am building a Cloud Clipper 71 and am planning to use a DYS D3548-1100kv motor with a 13x4 prop on 3s for the very reason it will look better on the fat cowl. “Go around power” isn’t in question here! Haha! I just don’t want to smoke my motor if and when I firewall the throttle but this much power should make the old timer climb vertically so it would be rare to need it. Great video!

Great video for us first time LMA folks. Only thing I can say is I wish I had gotten started on the process sooner because I'm dying to go fly my new bearcat but it's going to be a while.

I like your comments about beginning with balsa gliders for kids instead of violent video games. RC is the REAL THING in our three dimensional world, a kinetic skill and craft that lasts a lifetime.

Sir, I am from wagoner, Oklahoma. I own a hanger at h68, I have a Minimax that I’ve built I also have a cavalier 102.5 and a trick trike’s trike. I want to build an airbike fuselage and have two different birds I can fly with my set of wings. I know that u don’t know me from Adam however would you be willing to allow me to barrow or maybe rent your jigs etc that you 3D printed? Or buy? You sir are a fine builder!

Thank you for your video. The only time I fly with the CG at the Forward limit is on windy days. I learned on tail draggers. Returning to the hobby after 30 years I did not want a repeat of my initial self taught experience. Crash 3 aircraft to get the first successful flight. I joined a club. I got an instructor to buddy box me. In my case I purchased another radio that would work with his. It was cheaper than another airplane. I also chose an aircraft with a wider landing gear and somewhat forgiving flight characteristics. A Pilatus PC6. I still fly this aircraft every time I go out. It’s just great practice. I do hold the tail down until it has accelerated enough for the tail to start flying with a neutral elevator. I advance the throttle to about 50% until this occurs. Then continue to advance the throttle feeding in a little rudder. Let it lift off. This all happens fairly quickly. I was told if you have runway use it. Don’t force it off. I am thankful for people like you and the others who have helped me. The return to hobby continues to be quite rewarding.

I'm new to the hobby, and I just did the jump from a 1m DLG to a 1.5m. Although they have the exact same wing loading per dm², the 1.5m is so much more floaty, and the wing cube loading perfectly captures that. When I look up potential future glider models for me, I put them in a list with their wing cube loading besides them. Its such a helpful indicator. It should be added by more manufacturers to provide more context for each model...

I find people don't use their left stick enough when new. Flying a Profile 3D foamie and practicing harriers really taught me a lot about rudder and throttle control It also teaches you great cross-control for slipping in your scale RC plane. I'm now starting to get into giant-scale electric. I'm scratch-building my first Giant-scale AT6 Texan which has been 9 months since I started working on it. I love your KZbin channel. I just recently found it and I have been binge-watching your videos.

listening for my first scratchbuild and also first real RC plane and hearing that most wings stall at 15* AOA made me wonder how I can fly the F-14 on approach at 15 AOA but those are UNITS not DEGREES. Do we even need units of AOA for RC planes?

I thought you were gonna talk about the actual layout and designs of the wings and empennage more and was hoping for a bit of a deep dive on the super-stall characteristic of T tails and how a cruciform tail compares or what else you can do to mitigate super stall on either design. Cruciform tail is probably one of my favorites aesthetically, plus it's less likely to, well IDR the specific term but "stall" the rudder's control surface in either direction, quite unlike conventional tails in pitch up or (to a lesser extent) T tails when inverted.

I wonder how much voltage drop occurs in extended servo leads. I often see servo leads extended with wire of the same gauge that the servo manufacturer has used. I imagine that double the cross section would be more appropriate.

@@dagtheaviator By the way as I was working on my landing gear i have a question, how do i determine the correct position of the landing gear while the plane is in its designing phase? Do I have to make some weight simulations? (I am designing the plane in blender and I am yet to settle on all the electronic components)

Brilliant to see. I built one of them. In about 1980. It was a fun plane but could give you a surprise on takeoff. Mine would suddenly do a 90 turn on the runway and then get airborne. It could also get a bit snappy. Mine flew well on a graupner 12 x 6 prop. 😊

When something in the kit doesn't look right, I cogitate on it overnight and usually I suss it out after a good night's sleep. Also, if you are converting a Pitts to electric you may want to lighten up the tail feathers and rear fuselage a bit. Save some of that nose weight.

@@airplanyguy68 thanks, I covered the conversion to electric in one of the earlier videos on this project. Thanks have a great day.

It's easier now to learn CAD and design your own aircraft. I even use CAD and a laser cutter for prototyping. At least that way when you have to change things, you have a definite and precise starting point. Which allows you to have a precise point of measurement to measure from, to get to where you want to be, and maybe you can get to the final step of reiteration faster. Once you get it all sorted, then you can just push a Botton and pump the things out in a production line. just as a request, is there anyway you can measure the glide ratio of the Pitts once it's flying? People always say they glide like a brick. Would be interesting piece of bit to know. of course, then you would have to glide a brick to see what it's optimal ratio is... ha ha always enjoy your vids!
@dagtheaviator2 ай бұрын
I have had many Pitts since the 80's. The biggest was a G&L Hobbies 1/2 scale. They all have so much drag they glide like a brick. Once this is done, I will see if I can get some real data. Its easy to drop a GPS in it and measure speed and altitude. :)
