Could you make a hybrid when you pollenate two diffrent looking venusflytraps or Wil it become a normal looking venusflytrap that don't has the treats of the parents

@FilipBreukers yes plant genetics work much like human genetics. Traits will be passed down and hybrids are made all of the time. Its a beautiful science.

Don't be silly! These plants are 100% self-fertile! They don't need to be pollinated since they do it themselves when the flower closes up

can we feed these plants fish food and will they die after giving seeds, do you recommend seperating leaves to multiply them, great vid do you have a link for the pollination process and planting process
@jradjj2988
@jradjj2988 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely don’t feed them fish food or any meat , these things definitely only eat bugs they will die if you feed them fish food or like hamburger meat (yes people are stupid enough to actually do that). And you don’t even have to worry about feeding them unless you’re planning on keeping them exclusively indoors they secrete a very enticing nectar on the rims of the mouths that attracts bugs. The plant most times also won’t die after seeds if it is in really good health, it may tire and grow less and slower but it’s only because of how much energy it takes to produce flowers and seeds.

Welcome. Ive learned a lot since this vid. I forgot to mention that feeding them dueung fkowering will help tremendously. I was kinda going off the peter d'amato book savage garden which didnt mention that. Ive propogated quite a few since then. My conditions get too hot for the seedlings. Lots of little baby traps that end up getting cooked.

im with strecko about this so called stressing out for venus fly traps...if its for one why ot other plants??,,im sure stressing out is caused by other sistuations.. ive had adult vfts having 3 stems .didnt look like it been i the ring with mike tyson..does make you wonder hmmm
@HandbreakGlass

The flowering process uses energy. If it doesnt flower, that energy goes into growth. This is true with many plants. The plant will still look healthy, but many times it will slow growth and take time to 'recover' from the work. It is mentioned in Peter D'Amato's book 'Savage Garden.' If you have not read it, I highly recommend. It has a lot of good info. The plant wont look like it just went into the ring with Mike Tyson because its stressed. Just like how you dont look like you went into the ring with Mike Tyson when you're stressed.

I have noticed it is especially visible with sundews. After a colony of my drosera spatulata flowered, they all turned brown and stopped producing dew for a week or two. Eventually they bounced back and started the process over. Healthy plants will flower, and can usually take it just fine. Just like in the wild. But if you arent propagating and you want more robust traps, cut the stalk.

I no longer have any venus flytraps or seeds for sale. Everything is dormant for winter. I'll be restocking in the next month or two for spring.

@HandbreakGlass

I havent, but I can later in the season. You use 1:1 peat:perlite mix. Make sure no minerals added (no miracle grow types). Put some of the mix into a clear Tupperware. Just place them carefully on top of the damp mix and put the lid on the Tupperware. Make sure the lid has holes for ventilation. Wait a few weeks. They should germinate within 1-3 weeks

Im new to this. And i would appreciate some help. I have one of these plants. Its got two huge flowering stalks. One of the flowers openened 3 days ago. More maybe tomorrow and next days. But the flower that opened three days ago i dont think has opened since. Is that it? I lost my chance to polinate that one single flower or will it open once a day till the summers over? I also self polinated 6 petals from my venus flytrap and the seed pods closed up, but two to three weeks later, i got no seeds from it :( . No idea why

Lewis o kelly the capensis only flower for 2-3 hours usually while I’m still asleep. Keep checking on it and each one of those pods is a flower. Most will self pollinate and this is not necessary. As for the VFT’s I’m not sure... you may be pollinating them too early? Wait til the Middle is fluffy it is most receptive at that point. You might even be able to see the pollen come off on your brush like my other video. Use a sterile brush. I’m not sure how to help if you followed all the steps correctly. I usually get a flower a day or so from my capensis, but sometimes not every day

Paul Walker thanks alot Paul. You know how people say they "self pollinate". Well does that mean the plant polinates itself without the help of bees or wind? Cos its in the window but no wind or bees get to it. My drosera usually opens from 12 pm for a few hours. But only one or two flowers out of 20. Its my one and only drosera. No idea what happened my Venus fly traps seeds. I have another one with 5 seed pods about 10 days into pregnancy. So fingers crossed I get seeds from this one. Thanks for your help. P.s I love your movies

one more thing... if the flower is in that stage as yours...... to much energy is already spent to grow... and cutting it or not doesn't matter ?

Srecko Kovacevic you could cut the flower stalk if you want or you want seeds or u just like flower you might want to cut it then, also they says that if u let the flower bloom they will die but it just a myth (FAKE),if u want bigger traps and a big plant than u might want to cut the flower stalks of, I have some flowers in my plant but it healthy, but I want more plants that why, can u upload me a video I could probably help you decide!

I'm not sure if I answered this already. Flowering puts a lot of stress on the plant and can in fact kill it, but it does not kill it every time as a rule. Keeping them fed while flowering can help a lot. As for your question about why don't they die in the wild? Well.. sometimes they do :) but if it has flowered and produced seed, when it dies, others will take its place. Sometimes the plant will go dormant instead of dying completely. If the plant has already flowered as much as mine in the video, most of the hard work is done.
