Can i just say im a huge fan of Corrie. Im only 22 and i know what people are going to say but i really don't think it deserves the level hatred it gets now. I suppose the violence isn't necessary every episode but i think it's really a matter of fact that the producers are afraid of boring viewers if there isn't enough drama. I personally don't think the humour is "lacking". I often giggle at the silly one liners. Maybe not as strong as this style of drama/humour which was unique. But that was life then and this is life now. Times change

God that wife? of George was raving!!. Let me get this right Ray took a beating, accused of ‘trying it on’ for merely looking at Elsie …I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Watched the whole thing this time and can see he’s messing about with the zip on Elsie’s dress. His idea of making a pass then gets all huffy and verbally abusive because she’s turned him down. Ray was Ray a bit of Marmite character…love or..

They were originally housed in number 11. I'm not sure if Elsie passed them over to Hilda but I've got a feeling they first appeared in number 13 with Hilda's second 'muriel'

Audrey was really glamorous for an older woman! She's one of my all - time Corrie favourites - along with Emily, Alma, Hilda and Stan, Bet and Vera and Jack. I always liked Audrey!

Oh this brings back memories , my mum died in 1971 and I remember watching Val’s death in bed with mum , I was nearly 10 years old and we both loved Corrie . Such bitter sweet memories, RIP mum 🕊️. Loved all these old characters , and God Bless Bill Roach he’s a national institution…. By the way, I remember hating Janet , this hasn’t changed my mind 😂

Thank you for posting this. Highly entertaining. The bitchery at the "Battenberg" tea and the sheer horror of realising that AW on the carpet stood for the Alhambra, Wetherfield (bingo hall) are scriptwriting genius.

The Annie Walker character reminds me of some of the teachers at my primary school in the 1970's. Mrs Walker is like a Headmistress.

Characters like Emily and Mavis did very little for me as a viewer. These ladies always seemed to be on the verge of having a breakdown over anything AND everything. Highly strung, overly emotional and way too sensitive, it was an effort to watch storylines where they were the main focus. Both belong to the past. In the same way that other characters like Albert Tatlock and Ena Sharples belong to a time long ago
@gordontaylor53733 ай бұрын
Mavis was like that - but not Emily. I always liked Emily. She was a great character - I especially liked her scenes with Spider - or "Geoffrey" as she always called him. I really loved the scene where she was playing the didgeridoo! That was really super!

I like to imagine that when it cut to a pre-taped segment, that Liz’s husband (the real one) wheeled in one of those small black Sony TVs they used to have back in the day and beckoned everyone to gather round!

Maybe I’m wrong - but it’s odd that Ena didn’t know who Elsie‘s husband was because I thought Elsie had lived in town for a long time as had Ena so I’m not sure why Ena didn’t know who her husband was
@Paulious788 ай бұрын
If it's her first husband Arnold, I'm not surprised. Elsie moved to the street in 1939, Arnold would have gone off to fight in the war, so that was nearly 6 years of not seeing him on a regular basis. I don't know how long it was after the war that he left Elsie and the two young children, but he did, only to come back admist the poison pen letter saga.
