I liked the first season (as short as it was) but by season 2 they were wading hip-deep in molasses. Interesting characters were degenerating into standard stereotypes. The songs seemed from one particular era, which was not as diverse as Season 1. I will continue as Season 2 is abbreviated but I hope it gets better. Thank you for listing the songs you liked. I agree with most of your list, but you missed some great numbers in my opinion. But then again, that is how all lists work, right? Good job !!

My wife and I found this show by chance as the pilot episode was shown in a youtube ad and we instantly fell in love with the show. Even named our son Miles because of it. Definitely wish they continued with it!

All of the show was great; surprisingly, all the actors sang exceptionally well (especially Jane Levy who confessed that she could not sing at all before this show! IKR!); but my favorite times were when Zoey’s dad (Peter Gallagher) would telepathically communicate with his baby girl. It was always so very touching.

I hate jukebox musicals. I find them unoriginal and tacky. That was I did until I watched this show. The way this show uses popular music to show these characters emotions is amazing. The drama, comedy and emotion is all too tier. If only it would’ve gotten the full third season it deserved as opposed to the holiday special (although that was still a great rap to the series)

A lot of the song interpretations were so moving. I loved this show. I wonder why a show like Glee (which I watched for many years) was so popular but Zoey couldn't find traction. Also really enjoyed Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and was glad they were able to complete the story.

my guess for why Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist didn't end up getting as much traction was because it's targeted towards people who are older than the fanbase for Glee. Zoey's has storylines generally aimed towards adults, whereas Glee is generally teenager stuff. not that either is better, just that it's typically harder to sell musical content to adults

No idea, I guess some people are also pretty negatively biased against musicals in general. There was a time when I would recommend CXG to literally everyone and only my best friend ended up watching it. Most people did not even want to give it a chance when they heard the word "musical". PS Thanks for reminding me I need to watch CXG again. Thank God it's on Netflix. I would also like to rewatch Zoey but it is pretty hard to find online from where I live.

I love musicals and really liked the show for the most part (though I do think they struggled to write for Zoey's character since she had initially been based on a male). But I stopped watching shortly after the Dad passed, it seemed like they kind of lost steam after that, the stories became repetitive and characters stopped growing. I guess there are only so many emotions you can watch people sing through before feeling like you've seen it before... My guess is it got harder to know where the story was going because the creator's initial inspiration was the period when he was losing/had lost his Dad...

Glee is a good show but we all know it has it's problems, one being that the singing was how most people would describe musicals: "why are they singing instead of talking?" and every time they sang it was from their perspective. Zoey was different, if anyone sang it was their truest and deepest feelings being amplified by Zoey's ability to hear what they were feeling through song and it was from Zoey's perspective. It saddens me that people just see singing and instantly think "not for me", when this show is so good if they just gave it a chance. This show should've really lasted much longer than it did and I really think that good shows along with Zoey that are constantly getting cancelled are a looking glass into the problem within networks.

i like mo/alex newell just fine! i don't dislike a single character or performer in the show. i just liked a lot of other songs more! i think my favorite song that features more Mo is we can work it out from season 2 and yeah american pie is credited to various because i was following how stuff is credited on the wikipedia page i think :-)

Crazy Ex Girlfriend atleast was fortunate enough that the CW allowed it to get the 4 seasons they planned for and tell the story they wanted to tell. It wasn´t just cancelled like so many other shows.

it has a similar vibe with the dance numbers and comedy, but it’s absolutely not satirical like crazy ex girlfriend is. It seems like a light hearted show but then it hits you right in the feels and next thing you’re crying lol
