I'll just say it. You both sound crazy. What Emma did was really dangerous and plain stupid. It feels like she got pregnant to experience labor, not to have a baby.

Really helpful conversation thank you. I'm 37 weeks and I will have my hypnobirthing hat on ! But just around the baby heart monitoring and CTG, what do you think is the best course of action for this? Could you ask for it to be done intermittently ? I'm in for a hospital birth too first baby and I am nervous. My husband will be able to advocate for me and went to the classes too... it's just nerve wracking and I hate feeling like it's a fight before I even get there.

It sends shivers up my spine to hear that mothers and babies are just "monitored" by machines. So thankful I am to have had my five babies between 1978 and 1984. Granted it was a smallish country New South Wales hospital but I don't remember ever being left on my own during my labours and had hands on care from midwives who knew how to read my body and my babies and weren't glued to screens but were engaged in the process. Women are probably at their must vulnerable during labour so true personal care is so important.

The importance of terminology!! It is so easy for misunderstandings when terminology is confusing or open to interpretation : Delayed cord clamping Shared decision making Informed consent Continuity of care Risk doubles
