It’s actually kind of terrifying. I saw it on Apple Maps after looking for like 10 minutes. It’s not exactly the easiest thing to find. It’s off some road smallest man-made lake although it’s actually probably quite big considering it is a 1400 ton piece of metal pretty much but it’s also quite cool, I’m trying to grass how it works but 1400 tons is a lot and that’s what makes it terrifying
@catherineseapratt293822 күн бұрын
That’s so funny you say that. I was jus looking at it and noticed the road was some long dirt road off a street in the middle of no where. Quite scary looking I would be terrified to even get in the water

Much less than a traveling-wave surf tank, but still somewhere in the 7 figure range. Reach out to Unit Pool and they'll get back to you.
@beefquiche2 ай бұрын
@@WavePoolMag good idea. I'm told the CityWave units are ~ $1M - $2M, and that the traveling waves (for example Kelly Slater's) are ~ $30M. At ~ $1M - $2M the CityWave is a compelling alternative to the double lane FlowRider which we hear is ~ $1M. Let's see how UNIT's pricing compares.

@@WavePoolMag Just taken a quick look now, very informative thank you. The CityWave starting price of $1.3M is compelling. From the limited KZbin research we've done, the CityWave deep water machines appear to produce the smoothest wave.

Great video ! Is there such a thing as a Surf Lagoon Lifeguard Association? Perhaps this could help bridge the gap with differing tech providers if they can essentially treat each pool design as a different beach and they then imply set procedures to then sub contract to the pools. This is similar to how Australian Lifeguard Services run and operate underneath Surf Life Saving Australia. Perhaps this is already underway ?? Wouldn’t surprise me to be honest !
@WavePoolMag5 ай бұрын
Not yet. That's what they're trying to do. Having guidelines for each different tech makes sense. Even with 20 different techs, there would still be some overlap to simplify the process. One of the benefits of your idea (other than saving lives) would be that surf park developments could say "look we have these guidelines for this tech that are being used elsewhere in the world" and that would make whatever local council, more at ease with the project approval process. It's happening, it's just taking it's time - like all things wave pools. Thanks for your thoughts!

Then the difficulty is getting different nations to recognise and accept the qualification. I know Aus are working on one and here in the UK RLSS are also looking at possibly providing one, at the mo its the RLSS NVBLQ thats the standard and qualification used. I train the guards for The Wave Bristol now as an external provider but previously as a head coach and it’s something I have been looking at. It’s an interesting topic.
@Meta8_Eth23 күн бұрын
@@mattyhammersley4023 surely the RNLI would be the best organisation to approach? As far as I know, They still run the Lifeguarding for the majority of the UK major surf beaches / tourist hotspots. They rewrote the book on Beach Lifeguarding back in the early 2000s, I was there for it and worked on Cornish beaches between 2002-2005, before getting selected for the lifeguard exchange which bought me to Aus… Good times! I can already see an international Wavepool Lifeguard exchange program in the future. 🛟🗺🏖🌊
